Hi All
What are the signs of a worn cam chain?
My Van ''Luigi' has done 109k now and has had half and full services every year throughout its birth in 2008
I have noticed a tinkly noise at low revs when on the road when I lift off the gas
He still pulls hard [Being chipped] and starts first time engine is smooth and idles ok but that 'NEW' noise bothers me a little

Have a deco at the silencer, depending whose you have fitted, the Fiat ones have a outer skin, a heat shield in effect, only held in place with tack welds, mine broke and the shield tinkled......took ages to find. Cheers Qube O.
PS, as a add on, 2/3 years ago had drop link wear, that tinkled as well..................

Sounds like pinking. Use a higher octane petrol.

Re: Tinkly Noise

This 'pinking' is an interesting thing, as noted usually related to a low octane petrol or wrong timing under load.. My 66-plate Qubo 1.3 diesel pinks - or has that sound when setting off or working (Dualogic box). First time I've ever heard it on a diesel. No comment from the garage post service last time or after the new glow-plugs were fitted, or even the salesman at the point of test-drive though the sound is evident. The engine, still a 1.3 MJ is now rated at 80PS and shifts like the wind (with the rattle) yet not tuned, chipped or otherwise tweaked. Any thoughts on this? I'm not too familiar with diesel timing as ignition is defined by the compression on a diesel engine (isn't it?) so how is the correct point of ignition set - if set is the right word?

R-V-M

Pinking only normally happens under load though due to ignition being to far advanced on vehicles with no electronic ignition
