What do you mean programmed to ecu? All the data has to go through ecu at some point, since dtc freeze frames contain speed, acceleration and somesuch. I never disassembled the gauge cluster, but I would guess it is as simple as disconnecting a cable harness. This cable harness probably would go into the ecu. Which means the clocks are a passive device by themselves.
 
I know on some Vauxhall’s the clocks have to be (for want of better terminology) “divorced” & “married” from/to the ECU using Tech 2 or Op-Com. I don’t know if it’s the same with Fiats

Our Doblo camper has a non functioning engine management and glow plug lights, I’d be interested to know if you can just swap the clusters as I’d rather these warning lights were working.
