Hi, Sounds like the heat is causing a connection to physically open somewhere in the reversing light circuit, could it be the switch, I guess its worth a look........Cheers Qube O.

Switch looks easy to do just needing a 19mm ring spanner but on looking at its position its between the fill and drain plugs so obviously I will lose gearbox oil and I will need to get some when I'm next out.
Does anyone know how much oil these take and what viscosity?

Done a bit of research and the oil viscosity is 75W-85

You just wind the old one out till it’s just about ready to drop, have the new one ready and unscrew the last bit of thread on the old one and quickly whip the new one into place and screw it in the first few turns or as much as you can by hand.

At worst you lose a few drops.

If you fancy it you could tackle a gear box oil change while you’re considering topping it up. If you can top it up you can drain it.

I have a 62 plate punto we have had a stereo fitted and pretty much within weeks the reverse light hasn’t worked where is the fuse located so I can check that first?

Who fitted the Stereo?

There are 3 fuse boxes on the Punto, under the bonnet on the right, one behind the glove box and one in the boot behind the carpet on the right.
My suspicion is that fuses are not your problem, and that the stereo has been bodged.

In the end I drained fitted the new switch and refilled with new oil
It took a litre to fill.....Took the van out for a spin and managed to squeeze in another 3rd of a litre
