Turns over for ages in the morning before starting....maybe fifteen minutes!!!

Starts generally ok after that.

Big of 'lag' when you press accelerator - pretty much all the time.

Glow plugs - ok

In tank Fuel pump - pumps out when disconnected from filter

Filter - clear

Tested the readings on MAF sensor, the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and the fuel rail pressure control valve.

Fuel rail pressure control valve - all within the spec [as per RAC video on youtube]

MAF sensor as follows
Ignition On only - Green and Yellow reading 21mv [RAC video says should be 3-4mv]. Others oK
Engine idling - Green and Yellow now reads 12.1mv [cf 10mv from RAC video] others ok

Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor readings
Ignition on only - all readings fine [0.2mv, .5v, and 5v]
Engine on and Idle - Blue and Purple reads 2.4mv [cf 9.4mv as per RAC], others are fine.

Thoughts please.....I'm leaning towards the high pressure fuel pump being duff...but don't want to shell out £300 to replace it if it's not wrong....

Can I hire a high pressure test kit from anywhwre national??

meant to say...no sign of fuel leaking at the hp fuel pump.

We had though of changing the seals but no leak seems to negate that??

just an update...

yesterday it started being difficult to start even when hot [eg ten mins after turning off it struggled to start]

Then this morning it's not starting at all.....

I had to have the main high pressure diesel pump replaced with genuine fiat one, ( tried 2 X reconditioned ) the only problem was cost as it was, and still is £1000+ just for the pump. Also 2 X injectors, this cured it, starts on the button, almost before I release the key.

That does sound like a little bit of parts darts was played there

Not too bad, the injectors were defiantly knackered, this cured some hesitation, however it became pretty obvious that the pump was not doing its job, problem then being, that the 2 reconditioned ones from 2 separate motor factors kept throwing up fault codes ( I was there on both occasions)

After changing for a brand new fiat supplied pump ( hence the cost ) it started first time, every time as it should.

Used garage for years, trust the guys there as they welcome any questions I have and always keep me updated as to what I need and check before going ahead with any further work.

That was probably due to the incorrect pressure controller fitted to them , I have a leak on mine at the moment we looked it up at my local factors as my mate is the manager there ,
Even cross referencing from the genuine part no across to Bosch brings up a different part no to the one that’s fitted to mine

So is the best thing to swop over the pressure controller from the old pump to be sure???

Or buy a pump with the controller already fitted.....

Problem is that if you cannot match the fiat number to a Bosch part you are in the same boat as I was.
Having to buy a fiat original from fiat is a very expensive route to take, however I had no choice in the matter if I wanted it fixed.

After much searching and cross referencing I now how a fiat number Aswell as a Bosch no looks like my pump shouldn’t be on my car but more likely a Ducato it’s been on there since new now

Sorry that was yesterday [ie started first thing].....

This morning....spins away merrily without any signs of starting!!!

Care to share them???

The no that comes up on fiats part system is
71754571 Bosch no 0928400680
But have found this is incompatible with my pump
The no I have found is 71772309 Bosch no 0928400680
If you take the no off the plate on the pump and talk to a Bosch diesel centre they can tell you the exact no regulator your pump needs
I tried to order a Bosch one direct and they are on back order fiat wanted £155+vat and said it should be available next day , my Bosch guy who I know very well also gave me the Vauxhall no , tried our dealer we use at work nope sorry on back order phoned the place local to me that I know very well yes it’s on back order but I can see there are some in Europe I will order you one of them will take about 4 days and 122 + vat it’s been a fair few days of headache and phone calls !
