Light has come on and my obd2 scanner wont link in with the van. Do I need a particular reader? Guessing its a sensor as its driving fine?

Its a diesel and was serviced a couple of months ago so oil should be good. Will check levels anyway. Hate warning lights!!

Hi,
To get the most from diagnostics ou need a marque specfic system. One of the best for Fiats is Multiecuscan, www.multiecuscan.net It depends on your exact engine (see supported vehicles) but looks like you will have to pay the 50 euro registration fee to use it on a Fiorino. You will need an ELM 327 OBDII to USB converter and a laptop too. Get a converter that says "modified for multiecuscan" on ebay or Amazon.

Thanks for that. Sounds like it could be cheaper to get a garage to plug it in. Assuming its fine to drive until I can get it sorted?

Just been looking at a Scanex bluetooth obd2 for iphone - anyone know if this will work?

Depends on what you mean by "work" It will plug into the socket and transmit basic OBDII data via Bluetooth (probably), but it does not include any useful software and is not Fiat specific. The description does not mention reading or re-setting fault codes. More worryingly it says it supports iOS but not many Apple devices support Bluetooth and even those that do may have issues.
I'd avoid it. What laptop/tablet/phone do you intend to use?
Most of the Android apps have limited functionality when it comes to fault finding.

Thanks for that info. Ideally iphone 6 based but have a laptop which is fairly old and slow (not up on computers so no idea what spec). Just want sonething to tell me what the fault is so I can get the right part to replace.

Hi,
Multiecuscan does not need a fast laptop. Anything running Windows XP or later with a USB port is good enough.
Ebay item
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162678882016 includes all the adaptor leads for functions like power steering and ABS (see compatible vehicles list) or
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271275445368 is enough for the engine on your van.

MES does so much more than any of the other low cost solutions . Most main dealers will charge you more just to read the code and reset the light.

So have downloaded the software onto laptop and had a quick look. There are 3 variants listed fir the 1.3 diesel engine - how do I know which one mine is?

Hi,
If you click on "Scan" or press F11 it will scan for and list the modules it finds. Look at the details for the engine ECU and it will tell you which you have.

Also ( as I accidentally discovered) if you pick the wrong one, not a lot happens.......

So ive scanned the thing and at the end of the scan it just said "send report". I pressed that expecting a code to show but nothing happened? Give me back the pre computer days when you could fix an engine with the tap of a hammer and a tuning fork:). Any idiots guides to using this would be lovely.
