I took my car to get the wheel alignment done today. The steering was fine before but once I got it back it was swaying all over the place. I took it back and the guy redone it. He showed me the results on computer screen adn the tracking was spot on. The guy from the mot gararge next door test drove it and said it was a suspension fault. Fair enough. So when driving home the car sways to the right they to the left. Once I got home I jacked up the car and shook the wheels. No movement in them. I noticed when going over bumps on way home the nearside was banging at the top of the wing going over bumps and this made the car unsteady too. The offside was fine. Anyone any ideas whats causing this? Thanks

could be a few things , worn bushes, suspension mounts, suspension damper gone, wishbone,

first thing to do take wheel off and look at all the rubber parts on wishbone track rod end arm, there all filled with grease if they crack obviously the grease comes out causin a dry joint and the metal will bang together,

suspension top mounts could have give in, or the damper may have gone , all simple fixes mind,

just a matter of findin the cause

good luck

meant to say i have just put new wishbones and track rod ends on both sides. thats why i got wheels alighned. could the steering rack cause it? I know one of my top strut mounts are knackered. would this cause this type of problem? why just get worse after being alighned? cheers
