Right so last night whilst driving along at a steady pace (not gunning it) my injector light came on and it felt like i'd hit the brakes. Changing gear was very jerky and the car wouldn't rev up in neutral.

Question is, can an injector just "go" like that or do they more wear out over a longer period? And once it had been switched off for about 4 hours then i got back in it again it didn't happen for another 7 or so miles.

Next thing is, does the mk2 hgt have EOBD (think it's called that, when they can plug it in the machine) If so where is the socket?

Cheers in advance guys!

Will the light doesn't mean that an injector has failed, it's an engine management warning light, it could be just about any of the sensors that has failed.

It also sounds like your car has gone into EMERGENCY LIMP HOME mode, won't rev over 4000rpm and very hard to drive, this is a safety mode to help you get to safety in an emergency.

Not sure if your car is EOBD, pretty sure it's not.

the car can be plugged in mate, the connector plug is situated under the bonnet near the fuse box , there are 3 i think and you will just have to try all of them, a proper diagnostics machine wll tell you where it is just by the reg ov car

the eobd diagnostic socket is inside the car below the fuse box for those that dont know its a rectangular shape there are diag sockets under the engine bay 1 for the abs

Light went out, drove it round for 35miles and now, comes back on again, for no reason, whilst idling in traffic. im guessing it can't be that terminal but not what i want when next month i'm going to be doing 1000+miles in one week. godman fiats.

Neither HGTs are OBD2 or EOBD, they are a Fiat specific protocol. The Mk1 can be read with a VAG-COM lead and Barnacle's StarTrek software. There is no custom software for the Mk2, it will need pluggin into a Fiat examiner. It's possible a snap-on reader may work, it worked on my Mk1 1.2 16v Punto where others failed.

Apparently nedge, you were wrong! plugged in today and not a problem! Well there is a problem but its with the "throttle position sensor circuit" gonna have to have an investigate further methinks, but we reckon it's a dodgy connection somewhere as it's intermintant.
