Started to get things moving so I thought I'd keep a running thread. Long and short for those who don't know, has been off the road for 7 months and now I'm putting it back on the road.

This might not be as interesting as other threads as I wont be doing any of the work, as I'm 'mechanically challenged'!

So, here it is in it's prime:

And Bullet Bill for the laugh...

Step 1 - Get the thing started!
Replaced the old, dead battery with a new one. Plugged it all in, topped the car up with oil, started first time. It's been parked under a tree so was expecting it to stutter or something else to have gone wrong. Tested all the electrics and bulbs and the only thing not working is the windscreen washer fluid pump (No sound of it trying to work, got to check the fuse).

Decided to sort out my bonnet lifters also so there's one less thing to worry about. I purchased some Corsa B bonnet lifters last summer (from supernova). Now the ones I received were not INXX ones, although at the time the site lead me to believe they were. These ones came with 2 correct ball screws and 2 with a slightly larger thread diameter. Never sent them back as I managed to get hold of another 2 ball screws. I mention this because I've read a few posts where people have reported issues, so this is probably why.

Anyway, they had no power left in them (No surprise really, considering how long they've been sat with no grease) so I removed them and tried my boot lifters. They fit directly, although rub against the wings. Still, has a higher bonnet angle than my last pair and I like that they don't stand out as much.

Result. Now I need to wait for Mr postman to deliver some lifters for my boot!

Next I'm going to book it in for an MOT to find out what needs doing, once I've got new wiper blades, exhaust and tyres fitted. Out of interest, will it fail if the washer fluid doesn't spray?

That's all for now, not much but it's a start!

always good to see before and after pics :)

In relation to your question,i would say yes it will fail if your washer pump aint working.A car of mine failed on that once due to it being a hazard etc.You might get a minor if your wipers are on there way out i.e not clearing the screen.

Firstly, thanks Mike for the heads up. All I had to do to get it working was unplug the cable and get rid of a tiny bit of debris.

Yesterday it got treated to new discs and pads all round, new exhaust (standard for now) and fresh rubber.

Today, dad dropped it off for the service and MOT. Was a bit concerned as over the past few days it's been running rough and the car popped every time you put your foot on the accelerator when it's cold, almost like it's backfiring. When it's warmed up it's fine though. Also it was close with the emissions last time I put it through an MOT so I wouldn't be surprised if it failed.

Anyway, the verdict? Passed first time. Before they put it through the service!

2 advisories, worn suspension bushes or wishbones (can't remember which they said) and slight play in the steering. Will get those sorted when I'm back home in May.
Am very happy with that though.

Now it just needs insurance and taxing, then a trip for a new cambelt is in order. Can't wait!

nice one, another one back on the road soon enough. Glad it went smoothly :)

Nice job on the MOT :) good to see a bravo flying through one without any problems!

Yeah it's good to know it's ready to go.

Want to get to the bottom of this popping/backfire that's happening when the engine is cold and being started for the first time. As I mentioned earlier, happens when I touch the accelerator. Any steps I should take in order to start ruling things out? Otherwise I'll have a word with the guys at Power Italia when I take it in.

plugs and the maf??
take ya plugs out 1 by 1 and give them a clean, sounds like its misfiring.

Hmmm has been a while since I updated this. Suppose might as well give some hope to us HGT owners, since they seem to be dropping like flies recently!

The car has served me (and my friends!) well during the festival season, must have racked up about 1500 miles, with plenty more to go before the summer is through, including a trip to Italy and back.

Anyway, I've decided it's about time I sorted out the problem the car has, as I think it's getting progressively worse. Still having an issue with the power from cold. I've noticed that the car bogs down when setting off from a stopped position, even when warmed up. Revs are all over the place during acceleration, which can get quite annoying.

Now Mike, you suggested MAF and plugs. The plugs were changed during the service and there was no change in performance, so I think I can rule them out for now. Can the MAF be unplugged and engine run (briefly) to help diagnose the issue? Also, just to make sure, is this the right part?

Once this is sorted, should be some carefree motoring (Hopefully!)

Same MAF i have from the same place, working like a dream :)
Not sure if it sounds like the MAF though? Is your engine management light on?
