hi i was just woundering if i could change the release bear on my driveway, i might even go as far as putting a whole new clutch in, i've seen some1 change the clutch on a focus while it was up in the air with-out removing the gear box completely and i was hoping i can do this with my car, i've done other bits on cars even swapped an engine over but i've not done a clutch b4 and could do with some advice cheers lee

it can be tricky with box still attached as you have to get the clutch off and slide it out.then putting new one in and to lign it up.Did it on a 1.6 cvh,but wasnt that bad on those cars.

Best to change all 3 parts of the clutch while you are at it

Release bearing is quite a common failure, but easy enough to change as it's on top of the casing.
Dimantling other parts of the clutch is going to be alot more involved...

release bearing is attached to the clutch arm and is by the clutch not on top of the gearbox
it slide up and down the spline when operating the clutch
it can been changed on a drive but change all of the clutch components. buy a clutch kit and not just the bearing as you may end up doing it all over again in a couple of months if the clutch was to go

was gona say the arm but couldnt think of the name.the release bearing went on my polo as i found when i got the box off.Would make sense to get full new kit as said as you will no doubt have to do the work twice.I replaced the clutch on my polo with a used 1 and obviously the RB went few month after.
