hey there,

when you close the boot, usually self locks. But currently just closes and does not lock. It's just permanemetly unlocked.

there is an in car release next to drivers seat but has no effect. can u help?

Have you tried putting your key in to unlock it again? and if so what happens when you turn the key?

Kris

next to the drivers seat,is it a pull up lever? If so itll be cable and could have snapped or come off the lever OR its not working inside ya boot..
Had this problem inside my polo's boot, its open all time.
Open ya boot, take the plastic cover off and look to see if anything has snapped off or come off. There should be like an arm that pulls the mechanicism up/down when you pull the lever inside the car,AND when you turn the key.
Its hard to explain the way i did it but i had to use tiewraps in the end on the polo to keep it shut lol

yes, we tried that and no response.

when the boot is open we had to use the key to flick the internal lock over to the 'lock position'. But then could not close the boot as already in locked position and the lock does not fit into the lock groovy. Make sense?

Right, you say you can close ya boot but is 'open' mode? If so,you'll just have it bein open all the time,no one will know only yourselves.
Saying that, once ya boot is closed, can you not use ya key to lock it?
