I have got a 99 1.6 Bravo HLX which I've owned for the past 3k miles. No problems at all up until now.

About 3 weeks ago I treated her to a set of four brand new tires & a good service (done in garage) - new plugs, brake-pads, oil change, oil- & air-filter - the whole works.

Been on a bit of a road trip a few days ago where I covered about 400 miles - some on nearly 100mph motorway speeds.

Today, took a 50 mile round-trip to pick a mate up and the car started to feel funny.

Best way to describe it:
------------------------

1st gear) moving off, slightly sluggish
acceleration, hit 2500 revs, judder,
judder, pick up speed, 3000 revs,
clutch...

2nd gear) same deal as above

3rd gear) no judders, accelerator on the floor
but virtually taking 15 seconds
before I can change into 4th.

4th & 5th gear) same as 3rd
----------------------------------------------

Hit a pothole while this was happening & wham ... back to normal. And hey, a mile or so after that it was back.

Arrived home, 1 hour later went down to the shop (1/2 mile), all good, came out of shop, started car, wham sluggish again.

It sort of feels like driving with the handbrake on or having low pressure in tires but checked both - all ok.

There is no light illuminated on dash by the way.

NB: After getting the brake-pads changed the ABS seems to be a bit odd too, when I brake normally the brakes work fine but when I have to break hard (ie foot down) the ABS doesn't always kick in and breaking power is largely compromised.

Any ideas on any of the above? Apologies for the lengthy post but I wanted to be as thorough as possible.

Thanks, Thomas.

Sounds like it could be Sensor,if you know a friendly garage they may have a look at it for you, difficult when there is a few issues!
You may find some other 1.6 owners will input on here later.
For now you could try a reset of the ecu by leaving the earth off the battery for 30-45 mins .
Bear in mind it will affect mpg so drive econically for about 300 miles after this as it resets everything back to factory settings.
See if the problem is still there or its a diag at a garage i`m afraid.

might soud a bit stupid but going over a pothole "cured" it for a while. Sounds like something loose. Check the calipers. It sounds like something simple, Just finding it
