Oklies - time to start playing with my new phone. I have the SE W960i and wish to install a sat nav system on it.

I understand that I will need a bluetooth GPS receiver and some sat nav software.

Can anyone recommend any?

grab garminxt for your phone mate.used it on n95 and its good. it gets decent review for SE phone. you can link up from your contacts on your phone too :)

can be found on all good newsgroup/torrent sites :)

Looking at it, it appears it wont work on mine. It requires an external storage card which mine does not have. it's full 8gb internal memory. My phone is also not listed in the compatablity list

I think the only Sat Nav app that works on UIQ3 is TomTom Navigator 6. You can buy it on a memory card or DVD (DVD is the better option) and I've found reports on All About Symbian that say it works on the 960i.

And this post inparticular.

TomTom Navigator 6

The only problem with TomTom Navigator 6 is that it looks like TomTom have ceased development, but nothing official yet.

And I'm sure Ade will be quick to tell you that it is widely available on the "pirate to pirate" networks ;) ;)

Other than that, I don't know of any other Sat Nav app on UIQ3. They all tend to be for S60 and WM.

Funnily enough - was reading that exact post before coming back here. Looks like tomtom6 then when I get all my pennies sorted.

TomTom is defintely a class leader. Well, it was until they simply stopped updating it. Version 6 is getting on a bit, compared to others. However, I still use it (with the latest maps... 6.75) and it works a treat on my N95.

Rumours are abound regarding what TomTom is planning next. They recently announced that Version 7 would only be installed on pre-determined devices (HTC are the first) so it may be the end of TomTom on Symbian as a whole :(

You may also want to check out CoPilot 7 but that only comes on a card and I have a feeling your 960i doesn't have a card slot ? Or I may be mistaken.

I know that Route66, Garmin & Sygic McGuider don't support UIQ3.

You are right in your presumptions :) Looks like Tomtom is the only way forward with the w960.

Now to find a cheap but decent bluetooth GPS receiver :)

Holox BT541 from Holox-Direct on eBay.

Can't recommend it highly enough. Superfast lock and excellent battery life, coupled with massive amount of channels meaning excellent signal in urban jungle. It can even pick up signals when buried in your glove box :)

I can't recommend mine highly enough either. Its got a fast lock on, can be used hidden behind the dashboard like mine and is bluetooth sensitive, i.e it'll autp turn off when no bluetooth signal and switch on when you activate bluetooth on your phone. Mines hard wired in to my car, so its there when i need it and its completely hidden. I have it charging via the cables behind the cigarette lighter. I also have a switch to turn it completely off if required.

Here are the newer versions.....

Approx £30

Approx £27

They are now 51 channel recievers.

These sellers usually have high postage costs so they can keep the cost of the receivers down. Not strictly ethical, according to eBay, but they let them get away with it. Overall, add the two prices together and you won't find much variation between sellers.
