As title, has anyone ever done this and got any hints, tips or pointers ?

I'll be taking a closer look today, as I received my parts from Scotty yesterday (cheers buddy !), but I'm currently feeling like a sack of sh!te with this bug that's going round.

All relevant advice appreciated :)

No probs, first off you need to get yours off,the best way to do that i found was to take all the relevent bolts of from the outside first.
Then take of the plastic cover in the inside, get a chair or something to hold the door at the right hight so you can sit in the back and work while sitting make it a lot easeir, remove the wiper motor out the way,and disconect the rods that got to the catches at each side, disconect the plate lights, and the swivel that the rods conect to.
You will need allan keys,8/10 socket and extension, and same in a spanner.

Once you have it of they four screws that hold the latch into the housing take them out and swap the locks over,it loocked tricky to me at first but after having a closer look i think it will be that simple well almost, its very rarely simple these things.

Oh it would be handy if you had a help someone to stand out side to direct when need be,it save's you getting up and down opening and clossing.

Keep us posted on the progress good luck.

Hi mate,

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood :) I know how to get the section off (done it two or three times already ! ;) ), it's the actual key barrel that I was wondering about. I'm sure someone here told me they had done it and it was relatively easy.

Thanks again for the bits :)

Hey chap!

Ive done it :D

To be honest I don't remember how but I'm sure it just slid out once you had the casing out.

It was that simple, just make sure you remove all bolts and it just falls out.

Easy as pie if I remember correctly

:)

Nope.

I just dismantled the entire lock mechanism, levers, springs and all so that all that was left was the plastic lock casing and the key barrel itself, and that bugger just doesn't seem to shift at all.

Sorry dude, perhas mine were bust? I know i did it a few months back but didnt have a problem.

Sorry mate

Looks like the simplest option is for me to rebuild my existing lock using the parts from the replacement one.

Thanks anyway :)

Ahh i see,if it's of any use to you the key for said lock has apparently been located.

Well, it's Sunday, it's cold, so it must be time to dick around with the car ;)

I've decided that the best thing for me to do is remove the existing part, replace all broken parts with the bits that I bought from Scotty and then see if that fares better.

I'll maybe try and take some pics as I know this is a fairly common issue with Weekends.

I'll keep you posted.

Well, it's done and I now have a fully operational tailgate again ! I also managed to sort the issue where the central locking did not unlock the boot, so a Brucie Bonus there !!

Sadly, I didn't get any pictures. Firstly, it was all a bit too greasy and I'm not getting my camera dirty, and Jackie wasn't around either and secondly, I was too wrapped up in not losing all the tiny springs, split rings and levers.

Basically, I took the "new" parts that Scotty got me, removed the latch and lock, dismantled it and then removed the existing parts from mine, and rebuilt a new entire piece using Scotty's bits as a base. This meant I retained my own lock barrel but swapped over all the levers and springs from the "new" parts.

Suffice to say, the bits I got from Scotty saved the day and I was able to construct a fully working latch from both sets of bits.

It's great to have a boot i can use again properly at last :)

BIG thanks to Scotty for acquiring and selling me the parts :) Cheers buddy !
