Glow plug problem?

Hi.

I've got a 2001 Fiat Brava JTD (100)

My battery died last weekend, and i had the AA out to put a new one in. When he was here he said that the existing battery should not have been used and was for a petrol car and not a diesel! Anyway, he put a larger battery in and now the car starts with no problems...

... except I now get a yellow coil flashing at the bottom left of the dashboard for 20-30 seconds after starting.

A bit of research makes me think this is something to do with the glowplugs? Can anyone shed any light on this or any ideas about whats up?

The car seems to drive with no problems!

just your glow plugs mate... don't worry about it, you only need glow plugs when starting a diesel in really cold conditions....

... reason being Diesel turns into a jelly type lquid when it's seriously cold and so it don't ignight as easy, causing starting problems.

The days are getting warmer so you can do without them.. but you really should replace them as it does help starting in cold mornings :)

Thanks mate!

Is it an easy job to replace the glowplugs myself?

I've read a few threads and it seems quite fiddly? If I need specialist tools or anything like that I guess it would be cheaper in the long run to just take it to the garage?

The coil light flashing can also mean other things besides the glow plugs. Chances are it is the glow plugs themselves but don't be surprised if you change them and it still flashes.

That said, mine don't flash anymore :) Replaced the glow plugs and it stopped.

The only thing I have to deal with is the coil light not coming on from time to time! lol.
