As above,

I had cambelt kit, oil and oil filter done Thursday 1st, since then i have noticed a difference in engine noise and performance, the engine is louder and alot slower at set off and top end is really down, about 10-15mph less. I have never had the car to its limit but because of the ill feeling I am getting from it i thought i would see what B.O.B. would do top end (i know i shouldn't be doing it but) anyway i can say that i have hit 105+ in 4th before i know its not big n its not clever but its in the past. Anyway this time i struggled to get to 100 in 4th also im driving along at any speed any gear and then put my foot down or lets say at say 30mph in 4th and put my foot down there is a little shudder and then power gradually builds up.

Is there anything else that could explain this or does this sound like the timing may be out.....

Oh B.O.B. idles perfectly and starts first time.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

In what way would you say its on wrong could you elaborate,

I have just spoken to the garage there happy to have a look at the timing but hes sure the timing is right said he locked the top pulley in place and all the timing marks where lined up... also asked if car had been serviced which it was same day.... said something about coil pack ????

Cheers

If the timing is out the lose power.

A duff coil pack would cause a missfire.

I agree with Tom. Sounds like the belts out.

The Bravo Stays!!!

I agree with Joske and Tom. It needs the timing checking

Bump

Well i got B.O.B. in the garage today at dinner to check the timing... What do i do if the Mech says its right...i.e. where do i stand can i say look you fitted the belt its not been right since, put a timing kit on it and double check.... or is there anything else it could be i just dont want to go in there guns blazing and find out its something else.....

Cheers

when i had problems with my timming, my dad did it for my using the kit which the garages use and it made it worse, so ur best of doing it without the kit just do it using the timing marks on the puleys and the clutch...

Sorry couldnt hear you??

Right well,

Been the garage and took the mech out in B.O.B. mech noticed it right away said the car is holding back somewhat... so its going in on thurs to get the cambelt checked again however the mech said Air Flow Meter could be causing this, or is this just another way to get more cash out of me....??? anybody???

Cheers

do u know this mech karl? get a trusty mechanic to have a look, the guy i take it to will tell me straight, but what u can do is, take ur air filter out, and give it a go, see if it helps...if it is better, then it could be ur air filter, if it doesnt make a difference...im stuck, dont know what else to suggest

Karl sounds like they are trying to blame the prob on the MAF but fix the misalligned belt at the same time so you think the MAF was at fault and not there sh1te handy work.

Its the belt.

The MAF failing on the same day as the belts being changed would be one hell of a co-incidence.....

Does this mechanic/garage really know Brava/o's
- or they just an average outfit that don't specialize in any one make?

To be honest they dont specialise in any particular car make? I'm very much learning from this one i'll tell you... in any case i am "not" paying anymore money for the job. I get what your saying its just cant be a case of the sensor going the same day as the cambelt change....

Im just gonna tell him to check the cambelt and stay there with him whilst its done....

Timing Timing Timing, trust me and everyone else mate, i`ve had my cambelt done without the locking kit and its bang on with starting up and in every gear, no loss of power in any way shape or form, if this mech is not rust worthy hten i`d say he`s after more cash mate, but as with the others, definiteley Timing, to be honest you can have a drive of Scratchy and you`ll notice the difference of havin the cambelt done properly, the garage that id mine can be trusted as we use him for our cars and based in Oldham

All sorted, spent 3hrs with the mech yesterday.

Saw the markers on the top two pulleys bang on and the mark he put on the bottom was on.... anyways on checking all other aspects of the timing, he found that the bottom marker was out, I'm not a mechanic so not sure on the process of elimination but he had the coil packs off and spark plugs out which had seen better days, checking for the mark on the clutch ect. He noticed something wasn't right. So he moved the bottom pulley on 1 tooth clockwise put the thing back together and turned it over i could instantly tell B.O.B. sounded better took it out and oh the fun a little 106 Quicksilver bottomed out Full system decat not sure what else but we had some fun in moderation... the feeling of having the power back was amazing i know its not HGT power but it'll do for me anything else and I'd kill myself for certain.

Just a big thanks to all who gave advice on this thread.

@ Shaun - Thanks mate
@ MadGT - Cheers pal i think i may just start using your garage.

Glad you're all sorted now, (and also of course, that we can all feel smug) :)
