Hi, does anyone know why my brava 100 td coughs and splutters on tickover and up to around 1500 rpm, when this happens it coughs a cloud of smoke out, tried diesel magic, that never worked, its fine the rest of the time, please help its annoying.

SOunds to me something like a problem with the Idle control valve... But im sure a mechanical bloke will be along shortly to give you a proper answer

Last service was ? What was changed ?
Does it pull over 3000rpm ?

just got it, chnged oil, got a fuel filter coming 2 moz, pulls very well above 1500 rpm.

Sounds to me like fuel filter has too much water in it, egr is open or your fuel line has a leak somewhere - take off the plastic cover and inspect all of the return diesel rubber pipes

thanks will look at this when i do filter and let you know, where is the egr valve and is it serviceable.

Cant remember where its on the TD100, but it should be in front of the engine near the exhaust manifold. It has to be replaced whole, you may get it working by cleaning it, but blocking it would be the best if you cant get a new one. For instructions on how to do so, search the forum a bit

first thing to check/replace would be the diesel filter and check the fuel piping for leaks. You should also bleed the system properly, using the bleed nipple on top of the injector pump.. open the nipple slightly and use the pump on the fuel line until there are no air bubbles emerging with the diesel.
