Hello.

my handbrake when pulled tight almost goes back on itself. Funny as it is i wouldnt mind getting it sorted - it still holds the car fine on a hill but i wouldnt say it really "locks" the rear wheels up, can it be tightened easily - or am i better off getting a new cable, or will it become obvious if i need a new one when i go to tighten it?

safe :D

If you lift up the handbrake gaitor, the leather look fabric around the handle (not being patronising, some people dont know), you shold see a goldish coloured large nut, with the handbrake off, tighten this nut, it is awkward.

You should also check that your shoes and drums are not worn out,and working as they should.
And the auto adjusters are not seized.

nice one - but whats an auto adjuster? shoes and drums should be fine its just passed its MOT yesterday.

only failed on 3 things :D nothing £230 cant solve.

that was awkward.

Tight as i could get it, and its better, but i still might have to replace best racing handbrake cable. oh and also does anyone know how easy it is to get to the bolts underneath the handbrake, are they just underneath it - visible from underneath the car? cause they need tightening too, handbrake wobbles a little from side to side.

:D thanks again

john.

Regarding ,bolts need tightening. are you sure the mounting does not need welding down? Not be the first time that the have a split in it

The 2 bolts that hold the handbrake mounting down are relatively easy to get at.

One of them is exposed, but the other is hidden under the exhaust heatshield, which is easily removed.
