Bit of an intermittant problem, made worse by the fact I'm in Ireland on my holidays, without any tools.

The car is stalling occasionally when I dip the clutch to change gear, and am applying steering lock. Not good as it means I'm losing power steering mid corner. I've sat stationary with the engine idling and am able to go to lock to lock, but the engine is definately labouring more than it used to when carrying out this. The engine labouring isn't any worse at the extremes of lock than it is 'mid turn'.

Any comments or thoughts welcome. Myself, I don't know if it's an EMS or a power steering pump fault.

Car is a 1998 1.4S.

you are making full lock while turning at speed? they must have some bloody big corners in Ireland!

Answers, so far....

Power steering fluid level is fine.

The engine has cut once on a roundabout changing from second to third, and twice turning into my folks driveway....leaving me aimed at the gatepost!
