Ive heard that the outdoor temperature sensor is fitted inside the mirror on the models which have it as standard. Are there other good places to hide the sensor besides the mirror case (zero airflow, air heating when car on direct sunlight and such things are bad things for the sensor accuarcy).

Very little aftermarket kit with green backlight on lcd, trying to install it under dash between steeringwheel and drivers fan grille.

the reason it is palced in an area where there is little airlfow is to increase accuracy. the effect of wind chill would make the reading much lower that the true temperature when moving.

you are correct that the sensor will give a high reading when it has been sat in sunlight for some time, however the position of the sensor means it is kept shaded.

you may find this difficult to believe, but fiat do actually think about these things when choosing a suitable position. imo the wing mirror is the best place for it.

its the same on my citroen, which remind me i need to change it....

i'm interested by the idea of the outdoor temp sensor but i've drawn a blank on a google search for them, does anyone have any links?

A bit update.
Got the sensor fitted at the same as I resplayed mirror baseplates (good thing that I had some torx keys ^^)
I ended up lazy:
1. there is no place on dash for it to be easily fitted underdash where you could see it.
2. taking the wires from door to dash, too lazy to drill trough the door connectors.

So now its completely installed on the door and "borrows" some electricity from passenger side window switch. The place where the display is fitted is actually pretty good, it doesn't show outside too bad and doesnt take any airflow from the vent.

Will post pics of the display tomorrow.

The vfr800 i had included a temp sensor on the dash.

The actual sensor was inside the fairing somewhere.

On the move it was quite accurate (i used to ride past a temp display on my way to work)

But when you stopped at traffic lights the heat from the engine used to send it soaring into the mid 20s even with frost on the ground.

Nothing to do with the original post i just thought it made an interesting story :)
