smoothed and painted will be £40.

the air intake is behind the grill, and its badly fed from stock so i dont think it will help if you block the 2 air vents off. unless you have changed the stock intake i would not suggest you do this.

hmmm £40 to do that? smoothed aind painted?

wer from?

maxim

a small local bodyshop. considering it will take 5 mins and £2 worth of filler to do it, and then quarter of a litre of paint, and a total of 1 hours labour, £40 isnt cheap. it will also depend where you live, if you're in london it may cost a couple of million judging by the prices i've heard about.

personally i would fill and smooth it myself becasue no one will put as much effort in as you. a perfectly smooth surface is a must if you want it to look good.

i may buy one from scrappy and fill it me self and sell on ebay??

fill, smooth and then primer with a spray can, then you could sell "ready to fit and paint" grills.

thing is there are few bravos on the road, and even fewer are owners who mod them, and then out of the modders how many will want a smooth grill, and out of them how many will look on ebay, and out of them how many will be willing to pay your price rather than do it them selves. i'd hazard a guess at 6 sales per year

i would do it and sell to some one off here, ie if some one wants one i could do them one, but as you said its part of the "fun" doing it yourself :)

hmmmm ver interesting, i ddnt realise it would be that cheap, i could even make something along the bad boy bonnet lines? possibly adding to the summer holiday list.

about the loss of air? how could you compensate for this? re-route the cold air feed for an induction kit being a start.

any help?

maxim

i'd lay a new air feed, but there's very little room. in an ideal world if you had a wide pipe directly in the flow of oncoming air you'd have the best situation. plus if you have an enclosed filter like a bmc cda then you would also benefit from increased air pressure on the intake when moving at speed, which gives better power and torque.

yup thats what i was thinking, if i could sumhow place my BMC lower in the engine bay so that it sat paralel with the ground with a wide tube facing outwards then i would get direct airflow and surely increase performance.

thats what i am going to do! another thing to add to summer holiday list:D

remember that in the rain at speed its easy to force water onto the filter element with this type of setup, and that will seriously reduce the airflow, so you need to consider where water will go (have bmc angled down slightly and it will avoid major problems).

also avoid bends in the intake pipe, especially tight ones (over 50degrees).

re

i think if you smooth the grill you have to take out a foglight or similiar and take a cold air feed from there

foglight hole was perfect size when i had mine i believe.

also it depoends how they smooth the front filler and fibreglass £40 quid maybe,

but if they do it properly i think they shodul take off the front grill and weld in a sheet of metal, possibly doign bad boy bonnet at same time if you so wish, but this will be a it more expensive.

the problem with just doign the grill is the line where it meets the bonnet, i'd think that would crack very easily if you ever lifted the bonnet by the grill part?

yer i was going to do it myself, weld a metal sheet there and make it 'badboy' then smooth over prime and get sprayed!

will make a guide once i have done it! looking to pic up a cheap bonnet for now!

cheers maxim

its not as easy as filler anf fiber glass. it will crack when you lift up or close the bonnet. a plate welded in will do it and keep it there. also the welded plate will have to be bent to follow the shape of the bonnet or it will look ********. to be honest, get it done profesional or it will be a big waste of money

wasted:
cash
bonnet
time
sheet metal
filler
fiberglass.

when you add up all the costs etc of your painting and things its way cheaper to get it done professioanlly.

just my opinion though.

even with a plate it would crack mate over time,

different garages would use different methods
for a bonnet mod it's best to use mesh and fiberglass, then a filler skin to paint on.

or you cant buy plastic plates that can be bent and shaped to the desired effect.

the problem with welding plates on stuff like bonnets is it can sometimes warp the pannel with the heat.

you can use plastic plates or what evere even paper mache it if you like lol but welding the plate in is the best way to do it.

trust me mate as i used to do it for a living (as in my job) welding isnt always the best option
i am speaking from personal experience when i tell you wire mesh and fibreglass is just as good in most cases.

even when you weld you still need to use fillaer lol and that usual cracks aswell after a year lol

dunno if you have noticed lol but look at the front of my bonnet, that is welded it is perfect not a single ripple i can life ti usingthat i can slam it i have even sat on it. you do that with a mesh and fiberglas and i can gaurentee that it will crack
