Im thinking of buying a car thats written off (CAT C), how do you go about getting it back on the road etc it says in the ad that the V5 needs to be applied for, but just wondering what the costs and work invloved were in getting one back on the road, apart from the obvious repair bill
any advice asap wud b great

if it is a cat c , it needs to go to the ministry of transport for a "vic" check.
think it was about £35,they just check its not been put back together with super glue and make sure it is what it should be,
after that they will send off for your new log book and you will be able to drive it.but when the new log book comes it will state that the car has been a write off and that it has been put on the road, which some buyer may not like to see..

The only time i'd suggest repairing a CAT C damaged car is if its your own and you've had it a long time, and know its history etc(assuming that its a good history). Otherwise you arr probably just buying a big pile of problems. CAT D, well thats a different story. I'd definitely have a crack at that.

a cat c usualy is bad enough to go on the jig and that cost money mate to be honest you dont realy save that much anymore as cars are cheaper anyway and people want more for a damaged car plus they arent worth as much when you try and sell them.

Sorry for the hijack, but i'm repairing a cat c at the moment, i was blissfully unaware of having to reapply for the log book though?? and this vic check. Does anyone have, or know where to get more information about this?

HiEd, I see you are putting the car back on the road. Good luck mate.Mine was a cat "c" repair. I've had it 18 months now and apart from routine cambelt change and oil etc not a thing gone wrong with it
