As title,

got woken up by a neighbour at 7am saying that my car's been broken into

Doesn't seem that nothing's been stolen. A smashed driver side window and wing mirror hanging off!

Phoned the police but they can't come over until later tonight, bloody rubbish.

Where's the best place to get a new window???

Are you fully comp on your insurance? If you are they should replace for a small excess, usually £70 or less. If not then it's down the scrappy.

Yeah I'm fully comp! I didn't know the side windows were covered, I thought it was just the windscreen!!??

Nope, all windows are covered and it shouldn't affect your NCD either. Had my Punto broken into a few years ago and after a £40 excess hey presto, new window.

Also is it manual or electric? Colour coded or the black rubberised one? I have a manual non-coded one going spare including glass and mechanism.

Not too sure to be honest Wim, the plastic colour coded case is intact, just, it's hanging off

It's colour coded borreal red, and it's electric!

I drive a 1997 1.8 HLX btw

If I can get a hold of an electric wing mirror in any colour, sholdn't be too hard to re-spray in borreal red!

I think it's just the plastic casing thats got the worst damage on the wing mirror, is it an easy repair, i.e. a new casing or do I need a whole new unit???

It could of been a van or a lorry that smashed your glass and knocked your mirror off. Cant see a theif smash your glass and break your mirror. Unless you've annoyed someone or your neighbours.

Anyhow, i think all you need is a new plastic casing and a mirror, doesn't matter whether electric or not they are all the same, just with different internals.

Forget the mirror as its fine just get a plastic cover off one of the nice chaps above.

Wouldn't the mirror glass have smashed aswell if a vehicle hit it? and how would the window have smashed without any marks on the bodywork???

ohh and a few wing mirrors and aerials have been broken in my street in the past, but never a smashed window!

Vans have protruding mirrors, all it takes is a silly swoop towards your car, take the glass out and catch the mirror on the way out. The mirror was lucky not to smash i suppose the casing protected it.

Not 100% convinced, will have to wait and see what the slow responding police say!!!

Well dont forget your door mirror protudes out futher than your car so its easy to hit your mirror without touching your cars bodywork. A Van with a large mirror on a metal bracket could of easily pushed your glass in.

Also nothing was stolen. So it was either accidental or you p*ssed someone off.

At the end of the day its a relatively cheap fix, which you sadly have to pay for. It does suck. Someone damage my car but reluctantly i caught who did it and they paid up for repairs.

Sounds like a decent theory, and I hope your right as I don't want to start accusing someone and **** them off!

Firstly, what a bummer you must be due for some goodluck now.

Joske i know what your saying about the swing of a van turnning could do it.

But i think the hight levels of damage are all wrong for that,if it was a van there would be damage,srapes higher ware the door meets the wind screen piller not lower down .ie. the mirror. If it was i would expect to see body damage as well as the mirror.

I could be wrong though,just my tuppance

It looks like some low life scumbag has had a pop at it.
