how differcult is it to turbo or s/charge the 2.0 20v. i dont fancy trying to find a 20vt in good nick and would like to try sumthin different.

i swear ive seen an Eaton surpercharger kit for the hgt but cant find any info anywhere?!?

any ideas?

its never been a good idea to turbocharge an engine that was built as n/a
The whole thing isn't designed to take the additional pressure, and it just tends to go wrong, worst case scenario being the whole thing just smashes itself up inside.
As above, its best to replace the HGT with one thats had a coupe lump dropped into it already. Ribbz is selling a showcar standard bravo 20vt just now on pistonheads. Or you could get the conversion done yourself. if you can find a decent donor coupe

But carl already has a 20V Turbo Bravo.

The fact is N/A engines should stay N/A otherwise your trying to re-invent the wheel.

If your bored and want to do a project find a way of making our babies 4WD/RWD. ;)

rwd sounds like fun, would prob need older fiat parts or alfa parts to do it tho. or even lancia! :)

Well I've gotta do some more research but the new Alfa Brera 3.2 V6 Q4 JTS is 4WD and i'm hoping it's that box that i can get to fit, work and hold the torque.

just so you dont have to just accept that you can not do it i will elaberate slighty just for your infomation...

one of the main problems with turbocharging a na is that the na will run at say 170psi compression on each cylinder, wheras the coupe runs around 150psi, no i know those figures dont look a million miles away from each other but that is without the turbo spinning, once the turbo is spinning that psi mangnified greatly.... I dont have the exact figure to hand but say for arguements sake its x3 , that makes the coupe engines compression at 450psi and the na's with a turbo bolted to it 510psi, so youbasically blow the car apart :(

you can reduce your compression rating by using things like custom made head gaskets but its not worth considering when you could source an entire 20vt with everything there for less money.

Supercharging, it is feasible, although again too expensive, you can use an eaton superchange and use it where your air con compressor is (if you have one) but then you run into problems with the exhaust manifold... the list goes on...

Hope that helps abit more then just no :)

however i still agree with them, just get a coupe lump and drop it in or even just get a coupe, i did :)

Its just not fair....how do people get the money to do these projects...that 4x4 conversion sounds awesome and i dream of puttin a 20vt in mine. but i cant get even close to raisin the funds...i work hard, dont pee me money up a wall, damm this world we live in. grrrrrrrr.

ok rant over. thank you.

it wud b nice to do something different as u suggest but just doing a 20v turbo to your own standard and putting your own stamp on your car moves you away from the crowd. fair play mate

alot of people dont like to admit it, but mummy and daddy have alot to do with things. i wish my parents were minted lol

If you were minted you wouldn't have brought a cheap crappy Fiat like the rest of us and be here now. :) You would be another tosser without brains and too much money and en up buying the new Audi TT :)

i meant the younger generation. buy a car for 2.5k and manage to spend 5k on it +insurance when they only make £150 a week wages.

@J, Carl DOESN'T have a turbo lump. Thats the whole point of the thread, lol. Can he basically convert his 2.0 20v into a 2.0 20vt (t=turbo ;) )
the answer, is not economically. Its faster and cheaper to swap engines.

I wish i could have afforded to have done the said conversions, but with coupes getting down to £1.5k for dogs and £3k will see you a good one it just doesnt make sense (well not to me, i admire all that do it though, would have loved to have done it myself) If i wasnt technically minded, and didnt work at powerfiat i would not be able to run my coupe :(

As for the Q4 idea, one thing that might throw a spanner in ther works is that the v6 in the Q5 isnt an alfa unit, its from GM so gearboxes "might" be different, hope its not though as i would love to do it in the future :)

That said when i had my bravo coupes were worth quite alot more then they are now... you could get a rolled one for around £1k and recoupe about £400ish of that in selling parts...just ask johnybravo... and you could have a 20vt lump in your car for as little as £600 if you have the know how. (finding them is the hard bit)

re

Yawn, first of all search button this has all been discussed before.

as for 4wd it has been done. there was a black bravo with the 20vt coupe lump and lancia Dedra integrale running gear on spanish or italian ebay or something ages ago.

I went to evolution engineering with my 8vt lancia engined brava and they had it for a day doing some small bits then looking round quoting me for 4wd conversion, they said if i bought a donor dedra (£1000 upwards for a running one but from hungary/italy/spain somethign like that) and then 1500 quid to fit it all.

and you'd have an 8vt lancia engine to sell and lots of panels i expect dedra owners here would snap up.

or if you werent bothered baout 20vt you coudl use the dedra lump too, 185bhp standard would be enough for me i think. i parked next to matt at evo cars dedra turbo (not integrale though) and engine bays were identical from looks, infact my brava ended up with dedra pipework and intercooler as it fitted better than the lancia/coupe stuff with my battery still there.

if i was buying a bravo again i woudl buy a dedra integrale and just strip it to the bone and have the old school 8v turbo again, mine chipped had more torque than the equivelant 16vt chipped!

Do you have a link allan? as far as i know there isnt 20vt 4x4s there is 16v and 8v as you say but i have never seen a 20v.

What ever happened to yours in the end?
