Odd problem with 1.4 bravo. Battery warning light comes on constantly (getting 13.5v at battery at tickover but during use it has died on me doing 70 on a1 at time, scary moment). Changed alternator still same problem. Someone said might have automatic tensioner missing but dunno if it has is on 1.4 if it does it is missing and therein lies my problem.

However interestingly it causes the indicators to stop working when i step on brake, tested all the earths etc all fine (stalks i think) but the brake lights will flash as indicators, nice effect but already been giving a producer and MOT due in march

any ideas?

The flashing thing is due to the rearlight earths - you have a guide in the repair section.

The battery ligt may be due to the regulator on the alternator, it regulates how much power will go where.

And if you where missing the tensioner - erm, that is a small chance, the belt would slip, squeel .....

I had the same problem with my indicators/brake lights on one side when I bought my car. Turned out to be the multi-plug that connects to the rear lighting unit, it had been replaced at some point and was skew whiff. I disconnected and re-connected it so it was seated properly. Problem solved.

Hope yours is a simple fix as well.

Sven, the belt seems taught (however flaps a bit when revving), but i've tested the alternator over a multimeter, even been to kwikfit for them to test and it pulls 13.5 over the circuit at idle and during revs, it also shows the same with Radio/Lights etc on which made me think there was a tensioner missing or could that be the regulator still but on two alternators? orig and recond' one.

Yeah i've seen that and got it, but been raining last couple of days so not been able to try it.

I've replaced the connector and still not fixed.

Then check all of the main fuses, and dash connections - they may be loose - if you had 2 alternators, then the problem must be contacts.

The rear lights dont just have problems on the connectors, but also the earth wire where its mounted on the chassis - take a wire and put it on any clear part of the chassis(lock) and put it in the earth pin on te connector and try again.

Charging circuit shoud be up to 14.4 Volts. UNLESS Fiat for some unknown reason to me decided it should only be 13.5 volts.

:)
