Hello,
does anyone experience or does anyone know of any problems besides a fuel leak that will lead to high fuel consumption on a 1.4 BRAVA ? £10 to 45 miles??
Thanks

the 1.4 engine is known for bad fuel consumption. in the end they scraped it and brought out the 1.2

Excessive fuel consumption...

As mentioned, 1.4's aren't the most fuel efficient, but yours seems very bad.

I get about 90 miles per £10 fuel, whatever that is in mpg.

Anyhow, try servicing these items, unless you're sure they've been done recently...oil change, spark plugs, air filter. Make sure your tyres are inflated to the correct pressure. Don't drive fast, air resistance increases as the square of velocity ie a little extra speed can make a bigger difference than you'd imagine.

i had really high fuel consumption on my 1.8 as well just after i'd brought it, had a diagnostic check done, all seemed well tried loads of stuff!

went to put some new boots on it and discovered that there was slightly different sized tyres on each side (185/55 and 195/55) binding the diff up slightly! and the garage i got it off had got it MOT'd the week before.......... ummmm... i wonder what else shouldn't have passed!

at current prices you should get 90 miles for £10 in a 1.4 bravo thats working properly.

At 45 miles for £10 i'd suggest theres something really wrong.

Dont worry too much about people simply answering that it has really bad fuel economy. Its like chinese whispers, and most of the people saying that, have never had a 1.4 bravo or tipo, so just repeat what they've heard others say!
Granted, my 1.8(115bhp) gets the same fuel consumption as my 1.4(80bhp) did, but its not the end of the world. And if you've ever driven an american car, then the 1.4 engine is positively frugal! 35mpg is about all you could hope to ask for out there! 25mpg is the norm :O
They certainly dont have any 60mpg cars like we do!

Thats not too bad, the worst I ever got to £10 was about 25 miles, which equates to just over 10mpg, but that was thrashing the pants off the thing!!

Depends how you were driving really...if you thrash it, it will drink a lot more than you think.

SEX...I'm just two women short of a Threesome

i had a 1.4 sx for 2 years and believe me the fuel consumption is bad ive now got a hgt and i get better fuel consumption outta that lol

although the fuel consumption may be high, i would much prefer my bravo 1.4sx than the foci 1.4. dont see what this has to do with the actual post but i just thought id mention it anyway. how random.....

as above i'd try a few basic service items. and if the car's fairly new to you an ECU reset.

I was really disappointed with the fuel consumption after i got my car. did a reset and instantly started getting another 100miles out of a tank.
