Hi,

I have just bought myself a Y reg Marea SX 1.6, and am loving it. Went from a Cilo 1.9D to the Marea and it is such a better car to drive.

Im looking on spending a fair few hundred quid doing it up. dont want to do anything that involves me doing the work (completely usless at that kind of stuff) or silly like a body kit. A induction kit is on the cards and would also like some alloys. just wondering what you guys suggest?

Cheers

An induction kit won't really do anything except make your exhaust sound louder. A decent set of alloys and some subtle lowering will make it look really nice.

It really all depends on what you want. Do you want serious performance gains or just want to pretty it up a bit ?

But anyway, welcome to B.O.O. Nice to have another Marea owner with us :)

Do try and join up, it's only a fiver and gets you plenty of benefits (See links at top of page) and don't forget to add yourself to the Frappr Map (link also at top of homepage) with some pictures :)

If you are anywhere near Stanford Hall (Nr Lutterworth) on the 11th, a whole bunch of us will be there at the Auto Italia day :) Check out the dedicated thread for more info (location details are on the Frappr Map)

Performance gains would be nice, im getting spanked for insurence at the mo, thats why I had to restrict myself to a 1.6 although there was a really nice 2 litre marea at the dealer ship when i bought mine. Didnt help myself gaining 3 points about two weeks after passing my test.

The previous lady owner has made a mess of the passenager side rims so they need changing anyway.

Being really new to all this I dont know where to get stuff done.

Also, one of the rear speakers is a little rattley, how do i get at them to change them?

Is it the Saloon or the Weekend model that you have ? Rear speakers in the Weekend are in the rear pillars and are easily accessed by popping off the cover. I'm not sure if the rears on the saloon are in the doors or on the parcel shelf. I'll ask my brother to ask my step dad as he has one.

Join up to B.O.O and you'll be entitled to an extra 15% off a quote with Adrian Flux Insurance. They specialise in young and new drivers (they even quoted an old fart like me with a bog standard Marea and 11 years NCB with a very competitive quote !)

As for engine mods, there's a few things you can do which might get you the odd bhp here or there, but for serious stuff you would need to look at fast road cams and similar proper engine mods, not the bolt on stuff you get from Halfords ;)

I'm not sure if Angel Tuning do a remap for the 1.6, but again, check the link in the members discount page and if they do, Nigel will give you a discount for being a B.O.O member :)

Its the saloon, dont know quite how to get at them.

im stuck with tescos at the mo as I paid for the year unfront to save a couple of quid, but I will looking into it when the insurence is up.

They do seem to do the 1.6 Merea. mailing them now to see what ther suggest.

Thanks rob for your help

No probs.

Where are the rears ? My brother says my stepdads TD SX doesn't have rear speakers, just the front doors and dash.

sorry being slow today,

they are in the parcel shelf. I cant get the fabic meshing from the top off and there doesnt seem to be a way to get at them from the bottom.

Must be some way. Do the seats fold down ?

Yes, i was expecting a screw or something holding them in place but theres nothing. very odd.

Well, the rears are 5x7's apparently, same as the front so the adapter rings might work. If not, it could be a boot build that you need to get the best response, especially if you can't access that parcel shelf. No access from the boot I take it ?

got it sorted, the screw heads had been bent in deliberty on the underneath of the parcel shelf.

thanks for your help.

spoke to the people at angel tuning.. they say i should sell my car and get the 1.9jtd one.

Fair point as the JTD is a very good engine which is not only economical but can be made to be VERY nippy with an Angel Tune. I'd go along with what they say, but of course it may not be practical as you have just bought the 1.6 :)

Hi, I have also owned a Clio 1.9D in the past.. Possibly the slowest car I have ever been in. a 0-60 time of something like 17 seconds, LOL!

Yes, but that's a piece of French tat !! LOL ;)

Ask Tommy K what he gets out of his 1.9JTD Bravo that has had the pleasure of an Angel Tune :)

I had the pleasure of a ride in Tommy K's Re-mapped JTD on Saturday. My god it don't half go!! When pulling away from a junction into traffic he was having trouble stopping the thing from spinning the front wheels up all the time!! And apparently he was being gentle with me ;) so god know whats its like when he really gives it the beans!

Email http://www.reddotracing.co.uk for quotes on remapping, they will give you a productive anwser and they provide the the maps for angel tuning and they will also put the car onto a rolling road after tuning, give them an email and welcome to BOO
