as title says...

need a Bravo head and a friend has a Alfa 155 1800 head and he thinks they are the same.. but i don't wanna buy it... take it all to bits and find out... nope.. the bugger don't fit!!

let me know if it will... many thanks, tommy k

just been sent a reply from the person selling it.. and he thinks they are just the same.... will the head fit.. or is it totally different and not a chance it will fit or work??

just a little desperate now for a head :(

I believe it will fit the block BUT the bravo manifolds won't fit, the alfa has variable valve timing (so the bravo ECU is useless) and the twin spark malarky.

I assume its a 16v head as the 155 did come in 8v form.

i dont think they are the same either. doesn't the alfa rev a little higher, and more freely, and put down slightly more power?

i might be making it up, but thats what i thought was the case anyway.

they mite not be the same head but the block, as tom said, may be similar, but it would be an absolute pain to get the timing sorted, let alone the ecu! i've often thought about it but it is just more hassle than its worth. a 1.8 twin spark mite drop neatly into a bravo tho lol

its not a twin spark.. just a normal 1747cc..

this is the e-mail i recived...

"Right. Is the engine a standard 1800 16v Fiat Bravo /Marea engine. IE
not VVT, and pre1998.
Does it have single pack coils, individual , and is it 1747cc.
Check the engine code on the front right of the block as well.
The Fiat and Alfa engines are generic, ie apart from external parts,
manifolds, pipes etc they are basically the same."

i have sent back the numbers and awaitng a reply.

cheers guys for ur help :)

The Alfa 155 never came in non-twin spark, non-VVT 1.8 16v form.

For once, we agree on something, but what is an Alfa VVT?

For once, we agree on something, but what is an Alfa VVT - I didn't know Alfa ever made a variable valve timed engine.

I forgot to add that the blocks for 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 (16v, not 20v) for Alfa and Fiat are one of the same, as are the majority of cycle parts too.

Pretty much all the 4 cyl alfa engines from about 1980 have a variator on the inlet cam.

Certainly all the 4 cyls from 1990 on have them incl the new JTS.

Not being overly-technically minded, I wouldn't know a cam variator if it hit me in the face. However, it must be a really ****ty VVT system as I have owned 4 Alfa's now (two 2.0's a 1.8 and a 1.6) and I've never noticed any power increase when the needle hits the magic figure.

They've also all been dire on fuel "economy".

Its more to help idle and torque, its nowhere near as violent as vtec.

right.... well he's checked the engine numbers and the head is the same!! so the fiat 16valve 1747cc / 4 cylinder is the same as the Alfa
155 16valve 1747cc / 4 cylinder engine!! only difference is the alfa ECU tell it to fire 2 spark plugs rather than just 1 on the fiat.

Its a twin spark.

Alfa NEVER EVER made a 16v 155 without twin sparks and variable valve timing.

im not saying they didn't make a twin spark.. wot im saying is.. if the ECU doesn't tell the sparks to fire twice.. then they wont!!

The ecu doesn't change the cast lump that hold the valves and cams.....

ok... done some research.. and....

All alfa's have TS engines, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0, all use a 10 mm diameter and a 14 mm diameter plug per cylinder....

so which plug do u use.. and wot happens to the other 1????

hmmmmm.... starting to look complicated :(
