Fisrt time on the forum.

Having problem with a misfire, changed leads and plugs, car running better but still missing more so when pulling away in the lower gears. Checked the coil with a meter but still not sure that its ok.

When I changed the plugs they were pretty sooty so I was thinking could the lamba sensor be playing up and causing the miss.

Hope some one can be of help.

Plug colour is a very unscientific method, it basically tells you how the engine was running in the few seconds before you turned it off and most cars are a bit rich at idle.

If the lambda was playing up the MPG would suck more than it does normally.

Has any work been done on the engine? It might be worth getting a compression test and emissions test done just to rule out mechanical issues.

MPG seems to be ok haven't noticed any significant change. The misfire just started last week and no recent work done on the car. I did read somewhere that a faulty lamba sensor can lead to a misfire. Another thing is that the engine management light is not coming on which I thought was a bit strange.

I am leaning towards the coil being faulty.

It would only missfire if it was really rich or lean but then the car would drive like a dog.

Faulty lambda is one of the default reasons used by garages.

Does it missfire at idle? Do you have an induction kit?

There is a misfire when idling.

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by induction kit.

You've not got an aftermarket air filter, eg K&N.

How often is the missfire at idle, every couple of seconds, every 10-20 seconds, constant?

Probably the camshaft if it's the 1.4.

Looks like I've cure my problem, went to my local scrappy and managed to source a coil for £10 fitted it and misfire has gone, took the car out and it ran like a dream.
