HGT electrical problems???

Hi Guys

yesterday my car suddenly had a number of problems at the same time. The air conditioning, headlamps, fan, wipers, high beam, all stopped working. I have checked the fuses, both the ones under the dashboard and the ones in the engine.

It is a real pain in the arse as I can live with everything but no headlamps and wipers means I cant drive.

I wanted to know if anyone else has had similar problems or can guess what it could be (relays, motors, bad connection?)

I desperately need to get this fixed before thursday next week, so any ideas will be fully appreciated (with an idea of price). I want to make sure that the garge doesnt see this as an opportunity to fleece me.

Cheers
Phil

check the main earths around the fuse box under the steering wheel, and around the battery, have you had a look in teh fuse box in the engine bay, again the earths.

I have checked all the wires around the fuse box.
When you say "check" what do you mean?

There are 2 fuse boxes in the car, a fuse box under the bonnet and the strip fuses.

Sounds like the 80A strip fuse has gone.

I had a similar problem to this.
Had to have the stalk switches replaced.

Mark.

Sounds it might be the right time to go to the "Jap" side Phil!
Although i would miss the noise of the hgt in the area!

Dean

Yeah, we were talking about that a little while ago. It's really only the noise i like from it though (the hgt that is).

Let's face it, jap isn't always the prettiest, but sure can be quick and cool!

Tom - How do you check those strip fuses? (the manual calls them maxi fuses)
And if not that - what do you reckon?

Sabre23 - the stalk switches? do they affect the controls on the centre console?

Dean - not quite yet mate, but I am prowling for my next purchase.....the list and search goes on.....

Phil

Do they affect the switches on the centre console? Yup!

HRW, rear fog, wipers, headlights all at the same time, all due to stalks.

Mr AA did me a temporary "patch" to get me on my way.

ummm Sabre23

sounds like that is it because it is exactly those things that have stopped working, everything else is ok

Tom - have checked the main fuses, all ok.

actually Sabre23 the front and back fogs are working - just the headlamps and high beam arent

Having mentioned rear fog, not sure thinking about it.
Everything else mentioned, definitely, inc' dip and main beam h/lights.

turned out to be a dodgy fuse box. replacement part is £70, but £170 labour.....
I should change jobs to be a fiat mechanic.....

I have exactly the same symptoms - which fuse box did you need to get replaced?
Thanks

it was the one under the steering wheel (as opposed to the one in the bonnet)
Also had to change the stalk aswell a few weeks later.
Spoke to a mechanic friend, says it is simple to put in so maybe you dont need to take it to Fiat....

Well I'm having it checked over as we speak (Gonella Brothers down in Catford if anyone knows it) so I'm expecting a call this afternoon.
Keep your fingers crossed!!
