I am having problems with my 1.6 Brava. Just recently to get it to start I have had to insert the key and wait for the Fuel Injection test light to go out before starting the car. If I didn't then it wouldn't start. Now sometimes this doesn't seem to work? The car cranks sounds like it has caught and turns over for a fraction of a second and dies. Any Ideas? It is a bit random when it will restart some times seconds later you can get it to start and sometimes hours.

This morning it would not start at all. I could smell petrol at the exhaust after cranking for ages and I could hear the fuel pump at times. Has just had new HT Leads and plugs (problem was happening before the change).

It runs fine once started apart from poor fuel economy. Any ideas?

Is the injector light going out ?
And does the key light go out ?

Both lights go out before starting.

Very occasionallly the Injection light will come on when you turn the ignition on after it fails to start but if you turn off the ignition and wait 30 seconds and try again then the light doesn't come on and all is fine. I intend to take it to the dealler to get it checked over but I need to get it to start to get it there.

Well my guess is its related to the poor MPG. Fix one and most likely fix the other.

could be blocked fuel injector or broken ignition coil pack! when was the car last serviced how many miles has it covered has it had regular oil and filter changes?

The car was serviced in the summer and is serviced annually it has done about 80K and is 8 years old.

Tom is right the MPG has something to do with it but what?
