I know a little while ago this was coming up alot, so just to give anybody who's still concerned another bit of info.

I have a 96 1.8 Bravo. I have just fitted a brand new radiator and a brand new thermostat my temp gauge reads 1/3 up during 'normal' driving ie. off-peak city, m/way. Not just under half-way as many others on here have posted. HOT air is readily available at this reading.

Im not sure if this is perhaps a difference in models but im sure that this must be the correct operation due to the parts.

mine sits at 1/3 up during normal winter driving too and blows hot air readily i too have a 96 1.8 hlx, the engine runs sweet as a nut!

Tap the dash a bit over the gauge. The gauge may be showing wrong, or the system wasent blead right.

Mine sits very low all the time when driving, about 2 marks up, and when I'm stuck in traffic it creeps up to half way and the fan cuts in and brings it down a mark. very hot air is available when the needle is in its normal position (2 marks up). when i got my car i asked about this and ppl told me it was normal.

Regards

Andy

About the same as mine.

Sits a few marks up, and only gets to half way when in traffic.

Current Status: Doing Good :)

mine starts to pump water as soon as i turn it on, (you can see it running into the top of the expansion tank) even in freezing cold weather, and it only goes up 1 bar, and the heater is warm, not hot. except when its had 10 minutes idling.

My new thermostat will be delivered on monday and weather permitting my bravo will have had a fresh new coolant change (plus a bottle of forte' cooling system conditioner) and new thermostat :)

i'll update y'all then.

2 notches up is too low, you can expect to get a few more MPG if you replace the thermostat and let the engine run at the correct temp.

I've noticed better MPG already as my old thermostat was completely shot.

Out of interest are there any 1.8 owners who find their temp reads just under half in normal driving?
