Hi Chaps,

Have an slight problem with my power steeing at the moment, when I turn the steering either left or right when stationary, or have the steering turned slightly to the left or right when coming to a standstill the engine dies, and has even cut out on occasion, also from time to time the steering will be turning fine then go heavy for a second or two before it goes back to normal.

My steering fluid level has moved have been monitoring for a while now.

Does this mean my pumps on the way out?
Any ideas what a new pump would cost or where i could get one other than fiat?

When was the aux belt changed ?

Power steering Pump

Never been changed while i have had the car.could that be the problem?power steering belt?

Pover steering pump is powered by the aux belt, it may be slipping and you are loosing power both on the alternator and the pump. So when the pump ?eats? the power needed to turn the wheels it also eats the pover form the alternator and the car dies.
How many miles you got on the engine ?

67k i hope its the the aux belt as im sure thats a lot cheaper than the pump, would you try that first?

You have 67k and no aux or cam belt change :s
If you have money do them both, Fiat recomends change on 120 000km, but on the safe side chage on 100 000.
And yes, I wold check the aux belt first.

Cambelt and tensioner been changed, i posted up a few months ago about my girfriends bro attempting and bending valves, ended up in garage with a £400 bill.

You going to say why didnt i get the aux belt changed then, i havent got a clue.

How could you forget?lol is there anyway of checking the pump is working properly?gona order the aux belt and tensioner shortly and get a price for fitting the parts.

You can, but you must take it off. Its the only way I know and I dont think you will take it off
