As title really. I'm looking to buy an HGT I think and I seem to have insurance issues with the 99 onwards HGTs that are listed as the 20v model.

Basically I want to know if the older ones are just 16v and when did they actually start doing the 20v as I've seen a number of 98R reg cars listed as HGT 20vs.

Cheers for any help.

Ah right, so the newer ones just have a model name update?

na the new ones ahave 155 bhp and the older pre 1999 ones have 147

Hi

i too had problems with this. basically the hgtr came in 2 forms...

mk1..this was a 5cylinder 20v and has 147bhp

in 1999 the entire bravo range was updated and the hgt got some revisions

mk2 hgt has 155bhp and variable valve timing, same 20v 5cylinder block this is suppose to give better acceleration and improved fuel economy.

i am now on my 3rd (yes 3rd!!!) hgt, after the 1st i looked at getting a mk2, and i was truely diappointed . they were not any quicker, i didnt drive it long enough to test fuel mind. Overal the mk2 is a nicer car as it has nicer plastics etc used but there is noway yo can justify the extra isurance for the same car.

Also the mk1 has a more prominate exhaust note compared to the 99- and believe me thats a note you want. ;)

Awsome mate :)

Chees for the info.

Apparently the mk2 is half a second quicker to 60 tho. I'm sure that could be cancelled out with a straight thru exhaust and a chip tho. :)

ere Dave, you forgotten how to type your name son ;)
