fellow bravo-ites, it is with tears in my eyes and a almost empty wallet that i pass on this news....my 1.4 suffered oil feed loss to part of the camshaft because the oil rail got blocked.i now need a at least a new cam,oil rail, oil and filter..hopefully no permament damage done with bits of soft metal running tru the engine.check it out or have it checked out,i found this tru a authorised fiat mechanic he said it was a "small problem" with these engines.like hell!!
hope this will save someone else the hassle.
cheers from sticky dublin

yeah its a well known problem u can get a kit (all the bits to fix it) off ebay

i think it is in the guide under engine faults if not wimmy needs to add it :)

pursonally under engine faults i would just put 1.4 ;)

If its used for lots of short trips the oil should be changed even more often.

This problem is actually mentioned in the haynes manual!

I almost feel sorry for everyone who owns a 1.4.

I remember my 1.4 12V Bravo.. and I also remember selling it rather rapidly too!

:(

The 1.4 isn't that bad? I still love my 1.4, because it's a bravo, it looks great, and I'm relatively happy with the performance of it. If the mpg weren't so bad on the 1.4, then the only reason I would want a 1.2 is because it can be angeltuned. The 1.4 still sounds like a decent engine at 6500 rpm, roars a bit like the 1.6 but just a quieter.

GO 1.4 12v

My little 1.4 12v has no prob's powering past other cars with the dixie horn blowing. (ok the dixie horn is in my head)

I think that there is nothing wrong with the 1.4 I get 340 ish maybe more out of a full tank and my m8 with an fto struggles to keep with me in the corners lol (or so he says, could be pullen ma leg there!)

PS is it worth getting a K&N stock filter?

Re: GO 1.4 12v

if you mean a K&N panel filter then yeah its worth it. wouldn't advise it on a 1.4 or 1.2 though, except maybe the BMC one...

my 1.4 was fine too, though i serviced it 3 times in the 2 years she was mine. once was just oil and filter and sparks mind you..

Re: GO 1.4 12v

The BMC panel filter and the K&N are pretty much identical.

GO 1.4 12v

Thanks Buzz for the info, thinks me may have to pick one up, where's the best place to buy one? Would like to get one this weekend.
