Right, pulling into my drive having my spotlights on my neighbour said its illegal to have them on so me being how i am, i said well why do they make cars which have them then if theyre illegal...

what are (if any) the laws about spotlights on cars.. I thought it was just about only in poor visibility, so that would mean if its dark i can use them yes?

Rhys

Depends if they are spot lights or fog lights your talking about.

Illegal to use fog lights if it aint foggy :)

If your talking about the standard lights on a bravo (below the bumper) then they are fogs, sorry to disapoint.

lets hope not, now he has told me though, he is one for ringing the police, i bet he's one of these guys who takes photos of neighbourhood activities and will have a full ringbinder of photos of me pulling in the drive :)

I think Tom, the font of all our wisdom, has addressed this issue before...

There is no such thing as 'spot' lights on a car (unless you drive a 4X4 with hundreds of then attached to a bar behind the cab). There are fog lights and driving lights. The difference being that driving lights have a defined beam pattern, much like normal headlights on dipped or main beam (cursory inspection will show that dipped headlights shine off to the left). Fog lights do not have a defined beam pattern. The lights mounted in the bumper of the Bravo do not have a defined beam pattern and therefore are fog lights and subsequently are illegal to use unless it is foggy.

I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong ;)
