So, I had my head gasket replaced about a month ago and since then hteres been a ticking from the engine, to start with it was every now and then, but now its constant!! Someone actually told me how loud it was ticking cause she could hear it as she walked along! embarrassed

Any ideas? 97 p plate 1.4 12v 86,000 approx

thanks

give us a clue too!

Where is the ticking actually comin from.
Take a pic of the part or area if u can

seriously dont have a clue where its comiing from, will have to have a look and a listen i guess!!

The ticking gets quicker as my speed rises, but if I keep clutch dipped for a few seconds it stops (and then starts again!)

Ive jus had to have a whole new clutch put in, and when i start it, i can hear a ticking, but if i put the clutch down it goes. I would take it to a garage and have it looked at. I had to have a new third gear and cluth, it cost me a grand. good luck!!

OMG! no way, will sell it if it comes to that! hehe theres a nice vectra for asale near me for £1300 quid! hmm, shame the imsurance is astronimical for me!

im no expert but it sounds like your vulves need reshimming.
Was the head skimmed before replacement?

@Ollie ive just had a new clutch fitted and i can here a ticking noise until i depress the clutch is this normal then?

My HGT is the same, tapping noise when in neutral dip the clutch and it dissapears. Most of the time if i come off the clutch slowly the noise doesnt seem so apparent. Dunno whether to worry or not, had no problems arising from it to date ie.. clutch slip/gear selection probs.

Im relly not sure if it is usual, it has started to be less obvious now, but quite embarrasing. I think its the clutch, it has to be worn in slightly as its new, but im no mechanic.

If you've had the head off and the mechanic that put it back together was rushing to get to the pub then it could be your tappets.
There hydraulic, they sit on a bed of fluid so you don't hear them normally but if 1 has been put back dry you will hear a loud tap.
After a while a little oil may get in behind it and it'll get quieter but thats not ideal so i'd get it back to the mechanic and get him to check it.
No need to worry its more annoying than anything really.

1st prize to Rab!! took it back to the guy who did my head gasket for me and he said its hydraulic tappets!!! Said if he flushes the sytem or sommat it should stop the noise (which he also said is just annoying and not a problem as such!!)buthe's gonna charge me for it!!! Arse, its his bloody fault... anyways.....

Bag of giant smarties on its way to Rab!!!

Tell the mechanic that you'll get trading standards involved... then he won't charge you a penny :)
