If I jack it up, is it safe to just undo the two bolts that secure each bracket on the wishbone, and do them one at a time like that?

Don't quite understand what you mean, but its been a long day...lol

In the haynes it says you need to remove the ARB, don't...lol

Jack up the car, undo the two suspension bolts then work from there, much easier and quicker, you just need to lever them a bit to get them lined up when putting the new ones back on.

Orrrr, not the suspension. I don't wanna touch those big bolts.

I duno what ARB is Daz. I've got some powerflex replacements, and comparing how these new ones look, my old ones do indeed look completely fooked. All the rubbers sticking out the front and the rears (on the front) if you catch my drift ;)

Each of the two bushes is held in place by a omega like bracket, wondered whether one backet left was enough to hold wishbone in place whilst I took the other off to swop bushes.

Mebs I need to look more closely, cos mebs its not that simple. I'm looking in haynes but can't find any ref. You got a page number?

Your bushes sound exactly like mine were, hard, splitting and 'squashing' out...lol

Believe me if you undo the two suspension bolts (bottom of the strut, on the hub, not big ones on the top), it is much easier...

ARB = Anti Roll Bar ;)

You cannot (unfortunatly) replace one at a time.

When you undo the bottom nut on the omega bracket, the bottom bush comes off, then you have to remove the ARB then the top bush.

Have a quick peak at it and you should get what i mean...lol (i'm not great at this describing lark ;))

I feel a guide coming on!..
'How NOT to attempt to change your bushes!' ;)

Arrrrrrrrrrg !!

if you are changing the bushes nico you may as well change the wishbone too as they are only £15 for each side if the bushes are worn so is the lower balljoint! if the ball joint goes you will crash like someone else we know on the forum!

it really is very simple to do also while it is off you can do the droplink and antiroll bar bushes too

@Daz- you got me totally confused (am a bit drunk - the g/f is out), is this what U mean ?

thats the anti roll bar drop link sven the rubber bits on it are the bushes

Im Driven to Earn, and I Earn to Drive......

Yep, the bottom arrow point to bushes.

2 is the Anti Roll Bar.

3 is the wishbone. (i think as its a bit dark)

Thanks for the pic. Hopefully that will help Nico can see what i mean about you having to change the two together...lol

When you undo the bottom nut, the blue part springs up. If you undo the two suspension bolts the wishbone will swing on the strut and make it easier to get it back in.

Daz

Ash, I'd seen the wishbones advertised on ebay, but new, but for nearer £30 each. Still thought that was reasonable though, but didn't see why they'd need replacing as look fine.

Would I just get stock drop link and anti-roll bar bushes from fiat, or would these come with the wishbone.

Here's my new bushes, and my old ones - lookin truly out of place!

Ah...i need to read threads more carfully...DOH!

I though you meant ARB bushes not wishbone bushes...:(

Ignore me...lol

(but change the ARB bushes at the same time, they are probably in the same state if they have not been done.)

Daz

m m m lower ball joint..
dosn't look quite so susceptible to wear.
Is it the actualy ball or the joint that wears?
Are both a part of the wishbone, or they need ordering seperately, in which case, surely the wishbone itself need not be changed?

Thanks Ash and Daz - I learned something - now i know the names for them in Eng. :)

Nico - hope you sort it

sven

For Fiats, they always have the bushes on them. Its a common problem that has been transferred from early models (tipo, punto, ....)

sven

and the reason they do it is so that the ball joints are replaced at the same time!
