Re: no sensor at all??

Did this happen all of a sudden (you have the car a longer time), or did you just buy the car and have noticed it ?

sven

it happens since I bought the car

at the beginning I didn't care, but now we are in summer!
anyway it seems there are no wires for sensor...
still it must be somewhere...!

Re: it happens since I bought the car

So U bought the car 4 months ago ?

The fiat parts catalogue says it must be in the mirror.
If its not in either mirrors - I think the car had an crash on the passenger side and the one that did the repairs got the parts from a scrap yard.
(I know U have lots - cos. I live near you in Croatia), but he didnt take the right mirror.
I will take some pics of the connectors in my car and post them so U can see the wires.
The car, my car is a 2000 JTD 105.

sven

yes, but...

also from the other side of the connector there are just the wires you can see on the "mirror" side (5 connected + 2 not connected)
if there was some unconnected wire on the "car side" I would simply buy a sensor to sold it...
Since I HAVE an automatic clima (I hope at least it's not a fake one... ;) ), I think sensor is somewhere else...
apart everything else, everytime I want to check the external temperature display says "error cli", so something must be wrong for sure with it!

Re: yes, but...

Easy ! ;)

First, U bought the car whit this problem or not ?
Second, does your air con dash look like this ?

Third, these are my connectors
This one is on the passenger side, under the cover

And this one is on the driver side, under the cover

Right, listen up! I'll say again. The sensor in the mirror ONLY tells you the outside temperature. It does nothing to the air-con.

If your air-con is not working, the first thing is to get the gas checked.
If that's OK, check that the compressor is coming on when you press the air-con switch. If you watch the centre of the compressor pulley while someone else presses the air-con switch with the ignition on, you should see the clutch in the centre of the pulley move and hear it click.
OR start the engine and watch the pulley while someone else switches the air-con on. You will see the middle bit start to spin with the rest of the pulley.
If that's not working, check the relays in front of the battery. (They are under a tin cover.)

@Grandad - I dont want to be rude, but you are wrong.
Go to your car, disconnect the connector for the mirror (on the side where the temp sensor is) and put the ignition on.
After few sec, U will see the Error air con warning on your display - I know cos. I did it today as a test.

sven

I've been driving without the mirror on the car, and my climate control still worked perfectly. The warning on the dash has nothing to do with the INSIDE climate. Mine gives the same reading when the mirror is off, but it doesn't affect the air-con!
I still think your mirror has been changed for one without the sensor.

Dont know if it affects the air con, but I think there was more changed than the mirror.
I think the whole door has been changed - he doesent have the wires on the connector for the sensor at all.

Sven

@Francesco, i think U understand Italian so here it is what it says in the manual

AVVERTENZA Se compare sul display la scritta "ERROR CLI"rivolgersi alla RETE ASSISTENZIALE FIAT per fare riparare il guasto.

Please translate if you can
@Grandad - page 52 in the manual

Page 52 says exactly what I said. The sensor is for the OUTside temp.....

yes, I've not wires for it...

my air con works, still I've the error message.
Grandad, the italian manual just says to contact fiat to solve the problems (yes, I know, italians are so smart...).
my air con dash looks exactly as your, Sven.
I think the external sensore comes into play when clima is on the "auto" position.
otherwise it't out of the game.
the passenger side mirror connector has just 5 wires, even from the car side, wich I think is the original one.
that makes not possible to connect any sensor to it, no??

anyway...

Grandad, even thought clima doesn't need external temperature sensor to work (which, in my personal opinion is not true...) still I've the "error cli" message every time I push the button to display the external temperature.
That proves something is anyway wrong with it...

Re: yes, I've not wires for it...

First your air con is not automatic, it just has the auto position for the went.
If the passenger side has only 5 wires on the connector that is coming from the door (mine has 7 - like in the pic) Im afraid you cant connect the sensor.
The only way would be to solder the wires on the main connector on the door (the one where the door is attached to the chassis) and lead them to the mirror.

My guess is that the car had a crash, someone went to a scrap yard, got the door in the same colour and just putt it on the car.
But he didnt care/notice that the wires for the sensor are missing.

PS - I must go now, francesco you can mail me if you want so I can help you more if I can. But nothing till tomorrow. Sorry

Sven

Re: thank you

If you get the correct wiring to the door mirror and the correct mirror, the error message will disappear.

Re: yes, I've not wires for it...

In between the buttons for the air-con and air recirculation, there is a little grille. Behind it is a tiny fan and temp sensor. This is what decides how your air-con reacts, which is why tapping the dash there sometimes kicks the air-con into action. The little fan gets a bit lazy!
The mirror sensor has nothing to do with the climate control. It says cli err, but only means it's not sensing the outside temp (climate), and if it was freezing outside, it wouldn't be able to tell you!

The book says go to Fiat 'cos they are the only ones who can fix it.

If you still don't believe me, I give up on you! :)

Re: yes, I've not wires for it...

I think somone needs to back Grandad here as he is 100% correct. Think of it this way, why on earth would the climate control need to know the temp outside? If that was the case the climate control would keep trying to cool the car down even if it was -3 degrees C in the car if the outside temp was above the setting on the dash. The sensor for the climate control HAS TO BE inside the car as it controls the INTERNAL temperature.

I have no idea where the outside temp sensor is but it is solely there to warn you if the outside temp drops below 3 degrees C as the road may be icy.
