Ive overfilled slightly on my 1.6 bravo.

Is there much point trying to drain it out or will it ether burnup or leak out of anywher to normal levels?

I don't want to cause damage to any oil seals or anything, so if I have to pull the drain plug, i will.

Can you get new oil seals if they are damaged?

How much is 'slightly'?

And unless you are totally hamfisted you won't do any damage to any seals by undoing the sump plug.

drain some off.

overfilling is very bad, it can cause oil seals to blow.

thats my main question. How much overfill causes oil seals to blow. Mines overfilled only by 3cm or so.

Can oil seals be replaced if they do blow?

its expensive! and 3cm too much is WAY too much. just over the line is about as much as you'll get away with. Its a 5 minute job to drain off a pint of oil, and another 5 mins to wash the oil off your hands. dont take the sump plug right out (its a screw by the way, not like a bathroom plug) but untill the oil starts dribbling. keep a finger on it and let some oil dribble out untill theres about a pint out. tighten it, and after a few mins check your levels again, and hopefully bobs yer uncle. jobs done and no new gaskets needed.

3cms over the "max mark" - effing hell!

Dont even turn the engine over! Do as teh post above suggests. Immediately.

Overfilling does not blow seals, GOK where people get ideas like that from.

If you overfill the crank hits the surface of the oil and turns it into foam. Oil pumps can't pump foam so nothing gets any oil and the engine dies.

I'm about 2-3mm over should i worry? Been running ok for a fortnight.

I think over filling can blow the crank seals because of the increase pressure in the sump. I did it once, the pressure was so high that the oil went passed that pistons rings into the cylinders which resulted in massive clouds of white smoke from the exhaust (while I was over taking someone). Much like when an F1 engine lets go.

Thats because the crank is beating it to a froth and its spraying around inside the crankcase and onto the underside of the pistons.
