I feel a bit stupid asking, but after a quick look in the handbook didn't see anything, so here goes.

Have just got a 1.4s mk1 T reg Brava.

Is the red reflective strip on the boot just that, or is it a 3rd brake light?

Asking as, if it is, it doesn't work. Also the rear wiper doesn't work

If it is a rear light, is there anything common which might affect this and the rear wiper, or am I looking at 2 different problems - the wiper one maybe being a failed motor?

Thanks

the third brake light is at the top of the rear window. so that is just a reflective strip. The wiper motor is probable dead. Does it click or just not do anything. There is a write up of the fix on www.bravo-guide.co.uk

Third Brakelight

Just got a 1600SX Brava myself. The strip you mention is a third brakelight.
Evidently you can't replace individual bulbs/LED's(?). You have to replace the unit. They cost about £24 + VAT from JCS or shop4parts.
You have to remove the trim from the door to gain access. The handbook mentions this.

If the rear wiper motor is kaput they are expensive at about £90. Have you checked connections/fuses etc?

Hope that helps.

Good luck!

i'm sure wiggy is on about a bravo!

it is a brake light on a brava!

and yes you can only buy the whole strip from fiat!

if none of led's work then it may be connection to it, check the contacts on bottom of boot and along bottom of boot where catch is when its open.

if your wiper doesnt work at all either it may be one of these contacts broken.

Re: rte

I suspect the car may have had a leaky rear washer, which has corroded the motor and the contacts for the 3rd brake light...

Many Thanks

All,

Thanks for all the assistance - looks like I'll be checking for corrosion over the weekend & visiting a scrappy soon.

As an aside, minor problems not withstanding, it's a great car and a joy to drive. I like it much better than my old Corsa.

Next item on the agenda - dump the awful radio & replace with a CD player (but I need to save up for that).

Oh, and I didn't get a red key either (& didn't know they existed until I read the manual - a bit late then), but that's life, let's hope I never need it!

Thanks again

Re: Many Thanks

Try cleaning the contacts to the left of the boot catch. They can get crapped up and stop the 3 electrical items on the rear hatch working.
