Lets get ready...to Rant
Last time I got pulled on the motorway (first time in fact) I should really have considered myself lucky. Traffic plods said I had averaged 87.5 over three miles, which was a bloody miracle since I'd been going considerably faster than that on this occasion (ordinarily I rarely exceed 100 even in perfect conditions, inspite of however many audi's overtake me).
They must have had their eye in the sky on me for a hundered mile or so - unluckily, I was only five mile from the turn off on the M1 for Bromi land when they finally caught up with me. Its actually quite rare that I go on the motorway, and on most journeys I'll pass 3 or 4 people pulled up by the plod, as I go steamin past. Guess my luck ran out this occasion.
The cameras I've observed on high, arn't speed cameras, they're for observation. Besides traffic congestion and accidents, they will keep an eye on you if you keep your foot down over prolonged stretches (spesh if your car is bright bloody yellow like mine!). Then they'll get a traffic car after you (as no doubt happened with yours truly!).
Suppose I can't begrudge the plod for pulling me (actually felt thnakful) cos the guys must have waited till my speed dropped for them to clock me doing 87.5. The guy also stressed that the conditions should make me question whenter speeds such as mine wern't dangerous in these conditions (it was wet, and visibility hadn't been brilliant).
Got the impression if I'd been doing a steady 85 they wouldn't have bothered. I still was a bit miffd, cos my cars brakes and tyres can handle the conditions at that speed. I think the speed limits are about right, cos traffic plods are obviously able to exercise discretion, and there are plenty of crappy old cars still knocking about with **** poor brakes and tyres as thin as those on my push iron!!
My attitude to motorway driving is - the sooner I get where I need to be, the safer for everyone. On that very same journey (not unlike every other motorway journey I ever make - almost without exception) some bloody oblivious cow decides she's going to overtake ahead of me, so she pulls out at a snails pace in her new Range-rover obviously without checking her mirrors. It is rare indeed that I will resort to my horn, but if I hadn't on this occasion, she would have put me into the central reservation.
Some people just do not have a f**kin clue when it come to driving. The sooner I can get where I wana be, the less likely they are to invlove me in their accidents!
