HGT front w/screen washer

Hello all, I'm suffering from something I found a few times looking on here - a very low pressure dribble coming out of the front windscreen jets. I wiggled with a pin as suggested but that didn't fix it. I just took it to a frindly garage who disconnected the hose and put some pressure through it, but that's all fine - so it looks like the pump is clogged or broken. As with many things in the HGT bay it's all really congested - has anyone removed/replaced the washer pump and if so is it something you'd recommend to a novice? Thanks very much.

I've removed mine, this is how to go about it.

The HLX and HGT have two pumps. If you stand at the from the front of the car and look into the engine bay to your right are your coolant and washer bottles.

If you look through to the washer bottle you will see a pump. That pump is for the front headlights. The pump you want is under the coolant bottle.

There are three screws holding the coolant bottle thats sitting above the window wash bottle.

Undo those screws, one near the top of the bottle, one near the bottom of the bottle and then there is one that looks like its screwed into the wing near the bottom.

You do not need to remove any pipes as it'll give you enough movement to get to the pump for the front window washer jets.

The pump obscured from view is the one for the windows, (Right hand Side).

You've probably already checked this but when my front sprayers started doing that I found that the splitter has a form of diaphram which I assume when your nozzles clog up prevents the pump from back pressure.

You will notice this by water coming out of the splitter.

but alas it may be your pump

Thanks

I hadn't checked that diaphragm, no, but there's no leakage that I can see. I guess that would be sensible first though.

I did notice (just as it got dark, so I had to give up) that the outlet it pretty corroded on that pump (the other is clean as a whistle) so it could be that affecting the flow internally. It sounds fine.

I'll have a look tomorrow - thanks for your replies.

Re: Thanks

Hiya

had the same problem earlier this year on my HGT. It was the plastic splitter which connects the hoses to the jets. Cost £1? from Fiat and worked beautifully when I changed it.

I had a similar problem with the washer jets. I found that inside the jet there is a non-return diaphragm. If this has a hole in it the washer fluid will run back into the main tank. So when you press the washer button the water has to be pumped along the length of the feeder pipe. I had to make an "emergency" repair using a piece of latex cut from a disposable glove. The temporary repair has lasted for two years. I should think that if you blew compressed air through the jet assembly it would destroy what was left of the diaphragm Hope this helps!
