i know that you cannot use a cat bypass pipe, and pass an MOT emissions test, but can you use a sports cat, like they sell at Supersprint, and pass? I was wondering if, maybe, if a sports cat is not as good as a standard cat, that using an ecotek valve and SUPER unleaded petrol, or maybe one of those nasty additives, would just give it enough room to pass?

Tom, i know you dont have any faith in these types of things, ESPECIALLY fuel additives, so any other ideas? just in case?

Fuel has enough additives in as standard, it needs no more ;)

You can get true 'sports' cats which have grossly inflated prices or you can get a more generic cat which is essentially a 'sports' cat but doesn't come with the daft price. I have one, cost £170 all in and passed the MOT easily.

A proper (e.g. Miltek) sports cat will pass an MOT, although it may need to be warm to be running properly. Low quality high-flow cats are basically normal cats with fewer cells and could well end up failing you

Cheers Tom, and anon. Any idea where Supersprint come on this scale of good-crapness? Cant see prices for it, so its hard to know from that...

the emissions test is only ever done when warm, no cat works when cold.

A metalcat will be £200 for the 1.8. They are made in exactly the same way as the Miltek, folded coated stainless steel just without the cost.

A bit blurry but this is my cat:

yeah, already got the supersprint on though, Paul R did it.

i dont think supersprint do the cat replacement pipe no more!! If anyone knows if any garage has any in stock (as supersprint have stopped production!!) I would be interested in knowing...

i just looked it up in the hellfrauds catalogue in-store... its a pretty extensive listing they do !!! mightily impressed i was.

oh yeah, my point was, it said off-road only next to the sports cat, AND the bypass pipe, so i figured it may not pass

Apart from the legal aspects of the cat replacement pipe they are a total ****ing ripoff. Over £100 for 12" of pipe.

i agree, imagine how much it'd cost to make a whole exhaust system out of that pipe.
shh! dont start talking about legal issues, you'll be accused of having an hard on for the law. only jokin ;)
