HGT Jumpy at Low Speeds

Hi - Having bought a HGT a few weeks back, and still trying to get used to the feel, and sheer power of this thing. I am finding that on pull away and when driving low speeds it tends to be a little jumpy and doestn respond well without throttle. Its as though this thing likes high throttle to which it goes like wild-fire! but if you hold back, or try to pull away under-geared it "kangaroos"
Any ideas or is this a tuning problem - is there no minor "self-help" adjustments that could help this. (the engine condition is fine at ust 23k miles)

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm. Mine doesn't seem to have these issues my friend. Is the injector light coming on at all? Checked the plugs, leads etc?

Must admit that they do like a bit o' revs but Kangerooing? Nah.

had

something of this like a while back on the HGT. first i figured something must be clamed or something is jammed in the injection system. so had that cleaned and it still cont. so, after that i replaced the plugs. same thing.

after a while i understood that at low temp combined with low revs , the car acts a bit jumpy
and flimsy. but when it gets warmed up, even low revs at 4th gear the car responds smoothley. so it could be the same thing with ur car. just watch for the dials , if something comes up a bit often like the injector light that may suggest a diffrent problem..
but dont sweat it, the HGT really hates low revs, so it always feels like its saying to you "lets get going god damm it im chokin' here!!"...

Re: had

147, you've never driven a car with a manual choke have you? :)

Re: had

ok no lights at all - injector light on start up that quickly goes out, and then no warning lights at all.

Wouldnt have thought a problem with leads as this is ok on high revs, although will check.

I would say this doesnt change when warmed up, and like I say certainly no problem when putting your foot down, just seems to kangaroo on low revs. The car pulls like a jet plane at 4-5k revs in all gears, and when pulling away you very often push hard think theres nothing there and then it goes.

Re: had

Sounds about right mate. :) Only way to be sure I guess is bring it to a meet and we'll give you an honest opinion. ;)

Re: had

next time its choking keep half an eye on your rev counter, does it free up when you get to 4000? If so thats just normal. I have found that i tend to drive 1 gear lower than I would expect to in my previous cars if i want performance, or as normal if I'm being sensible.
On the other hand just drive everywhere faster ;)

Re: actually i have

Mine used to do that, but i had some lack of power until 1500rpm aswell...

A quick ECU cured it, no longer as jumpy :)

Re: actually i have

My HGT has been suffering a little of that recently. It's been diagnosed as the knock sensor. It's really flat upto 4500rpm and the power is a bit 'lumpy'. It's also pinking a little bit. Apparently it needs the knock sensor replaced.

Re: actually i have

The knock sensor is there to detect when the engine pinks, without it the ECU goes into a safety mode and you will loose buckets of power.

Get it fixed.
