Good news: Car passed MOT.

Bad news: Sump is cracked and needs replacing! Noooooo!!! £170 from Fiat for a new one :(

Anyone got one lying about for a 1.8 in their garage?!?!

I wouldn't mind but I'm meant to be taking the car down to Newquay (from Kent) for a holiday in 10 days time! Aaargh.

Hello Insy, surely a local breakers would have one. I am not sure if Jon has one at PowerAlfa, give him a tinkle on 01327 312645, its always worth a try for things like that and panels and there are serious bargains to be had as its clear out time!

Deff. give them a try, I tried for a sump for my 1.6 a few weeks ago, but they didn't have one (but he did have some sumps in)...

If not, check the price, the sump for my 1.6 was about £70 +VAT and a tenner for the sealant, £170 sounds a bit much...
:)

My mechanic says he'll have a look around for one from local scrappies, etc. If no luck, I'll give Jon a ring.

I have been told the sump will be fine for the Newquay journey - all I gotta do is keep an eye on the oil levels. It only leaks when the car is switched off apparently so for the journey it'll be fine :) (just gotta have a bucket the other end ;) ).

Would chemical metal do a similar job?

1.8 HLX Sump

I changed my sump about 6 months ago because a monkey garage had overtighted the sump plug (because they couldn't be bothered to replace the washer) so the thread is a little damaged.

Apart from it requiring rethreading and changing the sump bolt, it's fine.

From a 97 HLX Bravo.

Funny you should say that Tom.

My mechanic rings up (oddly enough called Tom!) and says: "I've got good news and bad news". He always does that to me :(

Bad news: He can't find a sump anywhere.

Good news: He's found someone who can weld it up.

Bit of a bonus as that apparently should be well cheap... so he says? Didn't say a price but I guess it will be better than £170 odd for a new sump :)

get him to weld any weak spots in the fuel tank while he's at it ;)

The insurance will buy you a new one :D
