Cold air feed

Having installed an K&N Induction kit, I can't but help feel that the recommended placement of the cold air feed is a but stupid... they recommend you run it by the radiator...?!?!? Surely, that's only going to heat the air?

See pic for example:

Hmmm.

I know its not going to make a huge amount of difference but any other place good/accessible for a air feed?

There's a fine line with the placement.
The ideal postion would be as low down as possible, ensuring you scoop up maximum volume of air and also, in theory, at it's coldest (I refer to my school physics lessons of the laws of convection, cold air falls to the bottom, hot air rise to the top).

Problems arise when you start scooping all the water that the UK rain has to offer us.

Friend of mine has a Lotus which has side vents on the rear bodyshell. He started tinkering about with the placement of the filter placing it directly within the vents, when it rained, ran like a donkey on 40 Marlboro's.

Tom: My thoughts exactly, struck me as too long to be effective or even slightly worthwhile.

Make it about 1/3rd the length, there is no need to get air from the other side of the car!

I'll have a gander when its not raining and see if there is somewhere I can utilise on the passenger side. See, you go and follow K&N's instructions to the letter and look at how silly it looks :)

I'm almost tempted to put the original air filtering back on tbh :) Not sure if I like the drone now.

Oh decisions decisions :)

I just have the original setup with a K+N panel filter.
works nice for me, not too loud and a nice induction roar.
standard setup is imo best anyway, as tom will say ;)

Right, I've had a bash re-routing the cold feed and reckon it's about right now. Think I must be imagining things but car seems a bit more lively in accelerating now... but I'm prolly tricking myself or summat :)

Here's some piccies...

You can just see the feed is coming from just by the side of the number plate. I've stuck the original air feed unit back to the car (also helps to hold the cold air feed in place with cable ties).

Ok, it doesn't look too neat (the glossy black area on the pipes is paint - better than silver duck tape ;) (using it to help hold the cable ties in place!). Thing is, I'm not after a pristine engine bay, tbh I couldn't care what it looks like - afterall, how often do you open up the bonnet to just look at it?!?! Functionality over looks anyday ;)

Alright mate
Get rid of the bottom half of the box and put the filter down in the wing. Much more cold air down there.

I'm just trying to fit a cold feed myself (for a Viper). The instructions only go as far as fitting the filter though - not the cold feed!

I removed the old filter but the task of getting the feed from the grill up to the new one aint guna be any easier. Think I will just leave the old feed housing in place and (since I took the whole filter out) the duct will (just) go striaght down and to the grill, once I cut through some of the plastic shielding, and I'm still not sure how best to secure the inlet to the grill; silicon & zip-ties - if I can find a position that will enable me to use them.! thought this would only take me half an hour!
