Okay, we all know our limiters are set to around 6,700rpm for a reason (1.2 16V), but what would happen if you were to take your car over this?

Reason I ask is beacuse I accidently had mine upto 8k tonight, and it's fine.

I also understand that there's lack of power that high, however rest assured I WAS trying to slow down ;)

Ian.

Damage if you keep the revs that high for more than a few seconds.

The reasons are:
1) Lack of oil. the oil is basically flung off the crank, the main bearings have their oil sucked away and they can get damaged
2) Valve bounce/float. The valve spring can no-longer return the valve fast enough so it never actually closes. This can damage the tappets, cam and valves as the cam lobe starts to push the valve back down again while its still coming back up.
3) Mechanical stress. The loads on the con rods, crank, timing belt, valves, pistons, rings etc.. could be too much and they could fail. Nuff said.

hmm best stay away from that limiter .. err opps just love the sound

1.4sx HGT interior (soon), green cotton airfilter, rage 4" backbox wiv stainless cat back, air freshner :), 17" Excite R01's (wolfrace)

Tom, that's the first time I've done it since I've been drivin - Okay some may say that's not long, but I've clocked well into the 250k barrier I reckon.

Just dropped down a gear too high!

Oops!
