I decided to watch a video (not DVD) the other night for the first time in ages. It was Platoon - classic film.

Anyway, it was an old recording off Channel 4. When the adverts came on they had that old cheesy advert for the Bravo/a, where the kids are on there Dad's computer surfing the net. They see the cars and go, "Oooh, Fiat Bravo 3 door hatchback and Fiat Brava 5 door Fastback" or something like that. Then the Dad comes in and says "So, which shall we get?"

The kids should really have said, "Make sure you get the Bravo as the other one has too many doors (even if they do try and make it sound good by calling it a Fastback) and try and get the SX, HLX or 20v HGT!... and keep some cash lft over for some 17s, bodykit and ICE!"

Oh memories....

Re: Who remembers this...?

Ahh, Platoon - what a movie.

"red neck noise dude, that's all it is....make about as much sense as you do"

Re: Who remembers this...?

I think you'll find the "Steers & Queers" quote comes from Kubricks "Full Metal Jacket", another superb movie.

In the words of Tom Beringer in Platoon....

"I **** you not" ;)

Officer and a Gentleman - Richard Gere as "Mayo-naise"

Re: Who remembers this...?

we'll agree to disagree then eh?

The line was probably in both but since O&G was released long before FMJ...I win! ;)

Re: Who remembers this...?

Sadly, Officer & A Gentleman is not one of my favourite movies....one that is suffered if the missus wants to watch it ;) , so I'm not too familiar with the script, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a case of "film quoting film".
And the "Steers & Queers" line is a commonly used term in the US :)

And anyway, there's only 5 years between O&G ('82) and FMJ ('87). And yes, I remember them both when they first came out and debuted at my local moving picture theatre ! :)

Warning: Audio Clip contains strong language

Proof, if ever it were needed, of the Full Metal Jacket quote:

This still has me in stitches every time !! ;)

Re: Warning: Audio Clip contains strong language

Rob, proof not needed. I do remember it in FMJ. I have to agree about O&G too. Very much a chick flick and possibly the film that took Gere to the top of his tree at the time - not something to be excited about unless you go for white slacks and dodgy scripts (for the most part).
As a youth I was keen on being a 'flyer' (not a leaflet :)) and used to attend the ATC where it seemed appropriate to know the lines of all military genre films. Looking back it was a rather sad situation but I knew no better (aged 14).

Where is the strong language then?

Re: Warning: Audio Clip contains strong language

Can you not hear the embedded .wav file I put in this thread ?

No mate, I put my work pc on mute a long time ago. I'll have a listen later tonight. Didn't know you could embed such things...

"impressive, most impressive" - name that film!

Re: Warning: Audio Clip contains strong language

Easy...

Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Spoken by Darth Vader to his disbelieving son, Luke ! ;)

You'll have to try harder than that :)

Don't forget, I used to work in the industry and have over 300 films in my collection ;)

O!

I had no idea I was dealing with Barry Norman-Ross. :)

-"I like you Betty"
-"it's Danny sir"

Its not a blockbuster.
