mines disappeared, what happens if i drive it till i get a replacement, apart from the obvious like water loss through evaporation etc.

would it be possible to knock up a replacement fashioned from various houshold items - duck tape etc?

cheers

Mr Marea

More like water loss through boiling :) The cap is required to keep pressure in the system to stop the water boiling. There is usually 8-10psi of pressure under the cap when the engine is at temp.

So?

can i drive it till i get a replacement, or could i cause damage?

if i feep an eye on the water level, will i be ok for a few days?

cheers Tom

Re: So?

It would boil in about 3-4 mins of driving, don't drive it.

Re: So?

Not to mention the inevitable air-lock which will no doubt occur and take many attempts to clear, possibly taking the head/head gasket with it.

Get the bus to Fiat for a new one if I were you.

Re: So?

Do you know what time or how often the buses run by any chance?

I lost mine about 6 months ago.

Being the mchanically-minded person I am, I bunged up the hole with a screwed up Sainsbury's bag and waited until the weekend to go to the Fiat Garage.

This worked fine and I lost hardly any coolant.

The Fiat replacement was about £2.40 I think.

£3.50

Borrowed my brothers Volvo 2.0 S70, its so slow but strangely nice to drive, feel like I am in a yacht.

£3.50 from a dealers in Grantham, in tomorrow.

Cheers all for help and advice
