I've built a cubic foot enclosure for my 2 cheapy sony subs. Each sub reckons it needs just under 1 cubic foot. Obviously the enclosure isn't big enough for both but I was wondering, what are the effects of not having a big enough box? Also.... would putting some holes in it help?

Me = audio newbie :)

TIA

ok, dont hold me to this as i am not an audio guru!

Basically they want 1cubic foot box, but when you minus the the actual volume that the speaker will take up then you actually have a volume in the box which is under 1cubic foot! if you understand???? Also if that doesnt apply, ypu can normally get away with +- 5% with out making any noticeable difference to the sound quality!

Hope this helps

You can buy books on speaker design. You need to know a lot of information on the drivers themselves in order to design a box to fit them into. Then there are some equations you use to work out the internal volume and the length and diameter of the bass port tube.

You putting both subs in the same box? Best to use 2 seperate 1cuft boxes.

Forget about porting, its a black art really.
